Dante's POV
"f**k! f**k! f**k!!!"
I sat still with my hands clasped as my dad kept walking to and fro in the room looking furious. I can understand how mad he is at the moment as I was fuming myself.
"The nerves of those bastards" he screamed and threw the glass he was holding to the wall.
"How many men were killed, Dan?" He asked the man standing beside me.
"Only five were killed, sir, but the rest are severely injured," Dan replied.
My father finally sat down and took a very deep breath. He signaled to Dan and the rest to leave the room. When it was only the both of us he spoke,
"But how on earth did those bastards know we would send some of our men to their camp?" He breathed angrily.
"I have no idea father. I knew from the beginning that it was a bad idea to send our men to their camp," I said.
He banged his fist on the table angrily.
"How dare you say that? The Americans had the nerve to set a camp in my territory and you tell me to do nothing about it? They crossed the line because they thought we were weak," he spurted out.
"And we just proved them right, father. They are already in Italy, and if we don't tread carefully, they will soon infiltrate our homes too," I said, raising my voice. I couldn't hold my anger anymore.
My father took a few deep breaths trying to calm himself down.
"So what do we do now?" He asked.
"I don't know father. But if there's anything I'm sure of,it's that there is a spy among us" I said.
There was silence between us as we allowed it to sink in.
"Dante, remember what I always tell you to trust your instincts everytime?" My father asked.
I nodded.
"Now that I think of it, there is a spy among us," he added and leaned back.
"Our next action now is to filter out the spy," he rubbed his chin gently.
"Dante!" He called.
"Yes father,"
"You know what to do," he said.
I nodded and stood up. I bowed slightly before leaving the room. Luca, my second in command and also my best friend, was already standing by the door.
"There is a spy and we need to filter him out. Gather all the men that were sent to the camp today, including the injured, make them assemble in the dungeon, I'll be there shortly," I rushed my words. I didn't even turn to look at his face before walking away briskly.
I could hear Luca giving orders to everyone present at the time. That's like my best friend, he never wastes time on anything.
I walked briskly to the bar and grabbed a drink. After taking a few gulps, I left for the dungeon.
When I got there, I saw some men in the dungeon. The light was dim. I spotted Luca standing in a corner with a small knife in his hand.
I dipped both my hands in my pocket.
"Thirty men were sent to fight the Americans today, five were killed and twenty six returned. Out of the twenty six, fifteen were severely injured," I paused to scan each of their expressions.
"The question is how did twenty six men return if five were already dead," I paused again.
I could already spot the traitor looking unease. He is such a weak soul that he got himself caught before I could spot him out. But I wasn't ready to bring him out yet, I wanted to torture him a little bit. As they always say "the fear of death is greater than death itself"
"As you know, there is a particular rule that my father follows strictly, "never forgive betrayal". Well that's how I roll too. But, if the person identifies himself now and pleads for mercy, his death will be less painful and quick," I smirked.
"But if he chooses not to come out, then I promise that he would be severely punished before killing him," I said with so much venom dripping in my voice. My voice thundered in the dungeon.
I fixated my eyes on the traitor's face and he began shaking vehemently. He started urinating and sniffing. He fell on his knees.
"Forgive me my Lord, I did it to save my family," he cried.
"To save your family or out of greed," I thundered.
"They're holding my family captive, my wife and my son," he whimpered.
I walked to him slowly.
"If you had asked for my help, I would have stopped at nothing to save your wife and son from their clutches. But you chose to betray us instead, you traitor," I said before pulling my pistol from my pocket and sending a bullet to his arm. He yelped in pain and held his bleeding arm.
I was about to send a bullet through his skulls when Luca walked up to me and whispered something in my ears. I nodded and withdrew the gun from his head.
I scanned the faces of the other men but their eyes were devoid of emotions. This kind of scene is normal to them.
"I won't kill you yet, you're gonna be of great help to us," I said.
I turned to the other men and pointed to two among them.
"Carry him and come with me,"
With that I left the room, with Luca following closely.
We got into my father's study, he was sitting at his desk with a glass in his hand. I signaled to the two men to leave us.
"I want you to tell me where their camp truly is and all the hideouts they have in Italy," I asked the man.
He began spilling all he knew for fear of his life.
"The operation is headed by Joe Smith, the second in command to the American Mafia Lord," he finished his statement.
"I need you to find out all the information about Joe Smith," I said to Luca.
"And take this fool back to the dungeon," I pointed to the traitor.
"So he betrayed us to save his family?" My father said as soon as they left.
I nodded.
"So what do you want to do now that we have a bit of information about them?" He asked.
"We attack all their hideouts and chase them out of Italy then focus on Joe Smith," I said.
"Sounds like a brilliant plan, except you're making the same mistake I made when I gave the order earlier. You're acting on your emotions instead of being logical," he said.
"What do you mean by that?" I asked, confused by his statement.
"You need to target Joe Smith, but now directly, target someone close to him, and then we will lay an ambush for the bastards that dare to come to Italy. We'll wipe them out in no time," he explained.
I took a minute to digest what he just said.
"I understand what you said perfectly father," I smirked.
"I'll go make some preparations," I said before standing up and leaving the room.
