CHAPTER 10: ESCAPED

Dunce was in his third day of another business trip when Fleur came home. This time he never called Lhan nor asked for any food delivery which he did before. Not hearing from him unexpectedly caused her to be annoyed. So, she busied herself cleaning the house early morning.

It was 7am when someone knocked. Lhan had just finished hanging her washed clothes at that moment.

"Lhan!!! I missed you!" Fleur hugged her tightly when the door opened. Lhan hugged her back. She was carrying a violet suitcase and a violet backpack.

"I missed you, too!" Lhan said in her slightly monotonous tone. She grabbed Fleur's suitcase inside.

"Heh! You don't sound like you miss me." She glanced at her mockingly. Suddenly she looked serious, "Lhan, I've been meaning to ask you this during our phone calls but I suppressed myself since I want to ask you personally. Is it true that Dunce is pursuing you?" Fleur asked without hesitation.

"More like pestering me. He's been plaguing me for months now." The annoyance went back to her senses upon hearing Dunce' name.

"Oh my! It's true!" Fleur felt happy. Lhan never had any intimate relationship with opposite gender so she was excited at this milestone of hers. "Why not try to consider it. Aljun believes that he is serious."

"So, it's three votes." Lhan mumbled.

"What's three votes?" Fleur asked in curiosity.

"You also think I like Dunce?”

Fleur just smiled at her question. They chatted about Dunce and Aljun the whole morning. How she thought they look good together and how Aljun complimented his friend.

Lhan cooked lunch to celebrate her coming home. As she did the chores, Fleur just sat there and interviewed her. They talked a lot more about Dunce including what Gideon and Elise thought about her and Dunce. They planned to meet Elise and Gideon but the two were busy.

At around 3pm, while they slouched on the sofa watching random tv programs, Fleur receive a phone call from Aljun. He was inviting her for a dinner and instructed Fleur to bring Lhan.

They thought it was just a dinner for the three of them. But when they appeared at their rendezvous, Jaden and Thedd were also seated together with two unfamiliar faces, a beautiful woman and another handsome guy wearing spectacles. To Fleur, they are all strangers except for Aljun since she never met them personally. This was the first time she met her boyfriend's buddies though she heard about them a lot from Aljun.

Lhan felt like turning back when she saw Dunce.

'Here we go, Stop heart! Annoying! He didn't even call me and my heart starts beating like crazy. Should I go or should I stay?' Her mind spoke. She wasn't sure whether the cause of her flight mode was because of annoyance as Dunce never messaged her while he was out of the country or because he acted like as if he never missed her at all. 'Weird. When did I harbor such kind of thinking? I should stay away from him or I will get even weirder.' Her mind kept talking to herself.

Fleur sensed that she was about to flee so she grabbed her arm.

"Ladies, come sit!" Aljun and Dunce stood up and pulled the chair besides them for Lhan and Fleur. Having no choice, Lhan sat beside Dunce.

"Hello!" The bespectacled guy stood up and greeted the two ladies. "I'm Fred Arce and this is my wife Gennie."

The girl named Gennie stood up as well to greet them. As sign of respect, Lhan and Fleur imitated Fred and Gennie's actions. They handshake and bowed with each other.

"You must be Fleur, " Gennie looked at Fleur then turned to Lhan, “and you are Lhan." Both girls nodded smilingly. "Finally, I've got the chance to meet you. I've heard a lot of you from Aljun. And gosh you are both stunning. I'm happy that I am no longer alone during this kind of dinner meeting."

Gennie was a childhood friend of the 5 guys. She looked elegant, a typical rich girl but mild and innocent. She's been married to Fred for two years.

"Nice meeting you Gennie. Thanks for your warm welcome." It was Fleur who spoke. Between Fleur and Lhan, Fleur was the talkative one and Lhan was the silent type except of course when she argued.

When the three settled on their seat, Dunce handed Lhan a tissue. "Remove your lipstick."

Lhan just glanced at her for a second then ignored him. She was wearing her favorite black lipstick. She continued listening to Gennie's talk. Gennie was friendly and you will never feel intimidated compared to other socialites. From her stories, they'd learned that Fred and Gennie were childhood sweetheart.

As they continue to converse, a certain someone is getting irritated. 'Damn this girl! I've missed her so much and yet she dared to ignore me, ' Dunce thought. Seeing that Lhan continuously ignored him, he put his hands on her legs and pinched her lightly.

Lhan was shocked and looked at him angrily.

Their friends noticed that Lhan jerked on her sit so all eyes were focused on her.

Dunce propped her chin and tilted his head to look at Lhan. "I said remove your lisptick!" Dunce slightly raised his voice. "You know I don't like that shade."

"Why? I love black and you said you hated it. That's why I like this more." Without smile, Lhan revolted back at him.

"If you are not going to remove that I am going to do it myself. And you will not like the method that I will be using." Dunce said as if they were the only ones in the room disregarding his friends

"You're such a blockhead! A nincompoop! A total dunce." Every word she said were pressing.

"Your endearments are interesting." Dunce smug.

Lhan snatched the tissue from his hand and stood up abruptly but respectfully excuse herself from the others. "Please excuse me!"

"Where are you going?" Dunce asked.

"Comfort Room. I am going to remove it."

Fleur was amazed. This was the first time she saw Lhan flustered and lost her calmness. For almost a decade she never saw her wore any facial expression except when she was afraid. She always remained calm and impassive.

Aljun and his friends were amused. The Dunce in front of them was different. Totally different.

Soon their foods were served and yet Lhan had not come back yet.

After 5minutes, just as Dunce rose up from his seat to go and check for Lhan, Fleur received a message. Upon seeing the message, she choked on the soda that she was drinking causing her to cough.

Aljun patted her back. Then Fleur whispered, "Lhan went home."

At the same time Dunce questioned as he walked to the door. "What's taking her so long?"

Upon hearing Dunce, Aljun laughed loudly. "Lhan went home!" He exclaimed.

All of them, except Fleur looked at Aljun with confusion.

"What?!" Dunce tried to call her again. "Damn! Her phone is dead."

"That can't be. Her phone never runs out of battery and she never switch it off. She assembled her phone and designed specifically with special battery so it will last up to 3 days of gaming. And it has a special feature, it will alarm once the battery reaches 20%."

"Wow! Lhan really is such a genius. Maybe she can make me one as well." Jaden could not help but wonder.

"Really? Call again and put it on speaker." Dunce wanted to confirm.

"It's ringing." Fleur obeyed.

Dunce walked closer to Fleur to check her phone, "Let me see the number."

"Yeah that's right it's the same." Fleur confirmed after comparing the number.

"Jaden! Let me borrow your phone." Dunce.

"Why what's happening?" Confused, Jaden handed his phone.

Dunce dialed Lhan's number. To his surprise the phone call rang continuously until it was dropped automatically.

"Huh!" Dunce combed her hair frustratingly. "That brat!" He called again and received the same response. His friends heard the automated voice of "sorry the number you've dialed is currently not available or out of coverage area. Please try your call later."

Aljun, Fred and Thedd laughed hard. Gennie giggled meekly with one hand covering her mouth. Jaden realized that Lhan especially set a ring back for Dunce. After hearing the last word of the auto response from a ring back he also cachinnated.

"Dunce! You are really special to her. See! She even assigned a special ring back for you!" Jaden, just like the others, also couldn't stop laughing.

Fleur bit her lip. She as well wanted to laugh but seeing Dunce darkened aura all she did was elbowed Aljun signaling him to stop guffawing.

"From now on Lhan is my idol!" Jaden declared boldly smiling from ear to ear.

Still feeling annoyed, Dunce kicked Jaden and headed towards the door.

"Awww! Hey! It is not my fault that she left! Where are you going?" Jaden jestingly asked.

"Does she think she can escape from me?!" Dunce was so furious. This was the first time he encountered that someone would leave him. Other girls desired to even sleep with him for a night.

"She just escaped!" Thedd reminded him with a playful smile.

Dunce walked out of the room and headed downstairs, then towards the parking lot to where his car was.

"I don't know Lhan was so courageous to provoke Mr. High and Mighty Dunce?" It was Fred who spoke when Dunce was no longer inside the room.

Amusingly shaking his head with smile plastered on his face.

"That's how we felt when Lhan castigated Dunce on their first day of meeting each other." Jaden informed him.

"Uhm, Lhan said sorry for leaving without saying goodbye." Fleur was apologetic. She felt a little embarrassed. This was one of Lhan's behaviour that she didn’t approve. If she didn’t like it, no one can force her.

"No worry! It's just wow! Lhan is so cool!" Gennie praised Lhan.

They continued eating and chatting without the two.
