Jaden stomped as he sat on the couch, like a child throwing a tantrum.
“This is new. You are late and seem to be in a bad mood.” Thedd posed as he gave him a glass of wine.
“Where’s Aljun?” Jaden did not answer instead he irately asked for Aljun while he accept the wine.
“Why? Did something happen to you?” His bad mood didn’t escape Aljun’s observant eyes as well even though he just arrived.
“Aljun! Will you ban that girl from your bar?” He propped up and pointed at Elise who was currently reaching for her guitar.
Aljun looked the direction he pointed, sat down first before he responded, “Can’t!”
“That stupid girl spouts nonsense.” And he begun to story tell them everything furiously, about how bad Elise described her and how the girls discriminately ignored him.
“I still can’t remove her. If she will leave, Lhan will leave as well. Right now, both of them are what my Muzic House is well-known for. Also, it was Fleur who asked me to hire them. They can only leave on their own accord or if my baby told me to.” Aljun arbitrarily explained. “Besides, what she said about you was not far from what is truth.”
“You and Dunce are willing to sacrifice for your girls but not for your friend.” Not so mad anymore but showed his laxed disappointment.
Aljun mockingly laughed. “Of course, they will be our lifetime partners you on the other hand is just a bothersome friend.”
“Aren’t I a lifetime friend...?” Jaden stated.
Continuing his childish act, Aljun cut his words. “Oh, shut up! Or I’ll tell Dunce that you put your hands on Lhan.”
“f**k! That was just a friendly gesture. Just like how I treat Gennie.” Jaden jolted in his seat as if he had committed a crime. Yeah, for Dunce touching even just a hem of her clothes was a crime.
It was the newly arrived Fred who spoke. “Do you think he will think that way?”
“The doctor’s here.” Thedd announced. The three stood up and the four guys fist bumped with each other as showing their greetings.
Gennie on the other hand gave them a beso beso (cheek-to-cheek kiss).
Thedd offered his sit to Gennie and moved closer to Jaden.
“Hey, gigolo!” Gennie kept clinging to Fred’s arm. Before she sat down to the offered sit, she added
“Causing some ruckus again.”
“Heh? Even you call that me now. Did you forget that I am always the one you ran to when you and Fred had fights.” Jaden said with his faked disheartened look.
“That was before because I don’t have lady friends.” Gennie comfortably leaned back in the chair. 'I have Fleur and Lhan to confide now.’ She said herself.
Even though they just met once they continued to chat. First with Fleur alone but soon the latter added Lhan to their group. She was glad being friends with the two as both were not like her old acquaintances who only befriended her for her money and family's power. The two don't curry for favor - Fleur was matured and sincerely caring, Lhan was naive and her honesty could be mistaken for being brutal.
Fred ordered the waiter who approached them. “Give the lady a Strawberry Daiquiri cocktail.” He turned to Gennie and draped his arm on his shoulder then asked winsomely, “What do you want to eat?”
“Hors d’oeuvre is fine. I’m not really hungry.” She answered her husband with the same sweet tone he used. She turned to Aljun after the waiter left with their orders. “Aljun, where’s Fleur?”
“Staying at home completing her reports.” He answered.
“I thought I could see her here. Letting her stay or you just forbid her from coming here.” Gennie teased him.
“I am not a control freak like Dunce and Thedd.” He defended himself.
“What does it have to do with me? I’m sitting here peacefully.” Thedd complained. Just like Dunce, he didn’t have one too many relationship.
“Speaking of Dunce, where is he? How about Lhan?” Gennie moved his head and searched around the two people.
“Dunce in a meeting and will come later. Lhan is there.” Aljun pointed at the Stage.
“Oh, that’s her band!” Gennie lauded with compliments looking at the five people standing on the stage. “No wonder among the bands that perform here, they are the most popular. They are all pretty and handsome. Isn’t he jealous?”
The latter part was referring to Dunce.
“That’s Alvin, a distant cousin of mine. The other two were his friends. Elise is Fleur and Lhan’s bff.” Aljun.
“Fred, can you hear your wife’s admiration?” Jaden’s was fatuous.
“Geez! My hubby surely not as childish as you. The other girl is really pretty as well. “They are really a group of swans. Elise..hmmp? Where did I hear her name?” Gennie tried to recall where she heard the name. Hut she could not remember a single thing.
Aljun didn’t answer Gennie’s curiosity but looked discreetly at Thedd, the person who knew Elise well.
Finding no answer, Gennie then gave up after not remembering at all. “Ahhh! Never mind. This will be my first time watching Lhan’s performance.”
“You will not be disappointed she is really good.” Thedd unlikely voiced his appreciation.
Gennie could not hide her surprise. “Theddy, is that you! I don’t know you can also speak some praises and admiration.”
Among the five guys, Thedd and Dunce were oblivious about others even if they were exceptional. Jaden and Aljun could utter freely their appreciation while Fred always had the friendliest smile.
“I am just telling the truth.” Thedd casually answered as he propped his chin on the couch’ arm rest while making a tapping sound on the other side.
“Just don’t let Dunce hear you.” She warned.
After several songs, Gennie stood up near the wooden grills and expressed her amazement loudly like a teenage seeing their favorite pop artist.
“Wow!” Gennie joined the mob in cheering the band. “Lhan! I love you!”
“Fred, shut your wife up! You are known for being prim and proper, the respected you is nowhere to be found now.” The nosy Jaden reprimanded Gennie and as usual Fred just smilingly shrugged it off. He just let her be.
“Lhan marry me!” She shouted waving both her hands.
“Gennie what are saying!” Dunce appeared suddenly and lightly hit her head.
“Ouch! What the...Oh, Dunce you are here!” She smiled childishly at him and started her explanation. She heard that Dunce got jealous of Fleur before. “I am just imitating the crowd.”
“Hon, stop fangirling or I’ll join Jaden for his petition of stopping their band from playing here.” Fred was smiling but they knew he meant it.
“Hey, my petition is for that girl to be banned here not removing their entire band." Jaden corrected his spot.
“That’s a good idea. Once you start the petition let me sign as well. I want Lhan to stop singing as well.” Dunce agreed with Fred and disregarded Jaden’s.
Gennie returned to her sit and rolled her eyes at them. “Tsk. Tsk. Tsk. Such petty men.”
While they were happily arguing, Lhan looked at their location and surely caught Dunce figure. She gave him a half smile and looked back at her guitar and played an intro of the song, At My Worst by Pink Sweat.
“Did she just look here?” Aljun couldn’t believe his eyes. Ever since Lhan experienced a great turmoil at the bar she never looked at the crowds or at anyone in particular even when Fleur was with him.
“No, the question is, did she just smile at you?” Jaden was also confirming.
“That so sad. I am the one who shouted that I want to marry her. Why did she only look at Dunce?” Gennie playfully pouted in feigned grievance. But she was delighted for her and Dunce.
“Hon, you already married to me.” Fred cuddled with Gennie and gently bit her earlobe.
Gennie giggles caused Jaden’s envy of the couple’s intimate affection. “If you are going to display your affection go book a suite.”
But that two just shove his remarks off.
Before Lhan started to sing she locked her gaze at Dunce and smiled sweetly. Then she sang the lyrics. “Can I call you baby? Can you be my friend? Can you be my lover up until the very end? Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend , tick by my side even when the world is givin' in, yeah”
She never left her sight off Dunce while singing and as she reached the pre chorus, she stopped plucking guitar and pointed at Dunce, “Oh, oh, oh, don't, Don't you worry, I'll be there, whenever you want me”
She sang acapella until the chorus, “I need somebody who can love me at my worst, No, I'm not perfect, but I hope you see my worth, 'Cause it's only you, nobody new, I put you first, And for you, girl, I swear I'll do the worst.”
Then she continued strumming the guitar while still looking at him until the song finished. “If you stay forever, let me hold your hand, I can fill those places in your heart no else can, Let me show you love, oh, I don't pretend, yeah, I'll be right here, baby, you know I'll sink or swim, Oh, oh, oh, don't, Don't you worry, I'll be there, whenever you want me, I need somebody who can love me at my worst, No, I'm not perfect,…”
When the song was done, she got back to her normal mode playing the other songs.
Dunce chugged his alcoholic drink until the glass’ bottom is facing skyward. “Stupid girl is she trying to kill me with her smile.” He said as he put the empty glass on the table.
“I didn’t know that she could portray such emotion. I thought she only has poker face.” Jaden wasn’t smiling at his amazement. “Who said that she is plain and naïve? Damn! She is an inborn seductress!
While everyone at Dunce side were extremely surprised, Elise and their band mates were overwhelmed. Thats was not part of their performance and never did they rehearse it. That was why they were like a statue until Lhan finished the whole song.
Elise could not help but criticized her inwardly, ‘Is that man her only audience?’
