CHAPTER 13: BOYFRIEND

One Saturday Night.

Dunce had to work overtime that he wasn't able to fetch Lhan. He arrived just as Lhan and her band mate's first set of performance was about to end. He sent a message to her, "I'm here."

While resting, she received two text messages. She smiled when she saw Dunce short text but immediately her smile turned into fear and she trembled when she saw the name that registered on her phone.

The other message was from Mayor Marco Crown, another persistent admirer of hers. But among her admirers, she was truly terrified at the young Mayor even though he looked young and kind.

Lhan was almost r***d by a police officer and a government official when she was in high school. That past incident made her detest those people who work in that field.

Way back her junior high, there was a program in her school where a Mayor of their town was invited to give a speech. As she topped her class, she was tasked to greet and assist the VIP's together with other cream of the crop. The moment that the Mayor saw her, he instantly took a liking of her. Thereon, the following days he had a party at his own home and invited the school officials including the top students. With the help of one police officer, who happened to escort the Mayor, Lhan was locked up at the cellar. They secretly put a drug on her drinks and when she went to the rest room to wash her face as she felt sleepy, a police officer suddenly appeared, covered her mouth with drugged handkerchief and sneakily brought her to the cellar.

Gideon and Fleur, who also were among the bright students, were also invited at that time. They were already close friends. After the party was finished, they looked for Lhan but couldn't find her. They told their professors however, they suspected that Lhan just went home. Gideon and Fleur were worried as it was quite unusual that Lhan would leave them without saying goodbye. They tried to call her. Fortunately, Lhan sent an SOS message thru their cellphone. With the bracelet she invented she was able to tell them where she was when she regained consciousness. Gideon asked for his parents helped to rescue her. Luckily, Gideon's father helped her timely. The Mayor however was not reprimanded nor jailed. Gideon's father then told him that if he approached Lhan and her friends they were going to release the scandal. This incident traumatized Lhan hard enough. Even though there was an agreement she still couldn't feel at ease. That's why she transferred to different town. Fleur and Gideon followed her. When they transferred, Elise became part of their clique.

Back to the present, the message she received from the young Mayor was, 'I'm at my usual spot, my little angel. Come here or I'll visit you at your school.'

Lhan went to him after reading his message. She didn’t want to give the young Mayor a chance so she thought of a plan. She decided to go to him but stop at the last step of the stairs. She felt relieved when she saw that Dunce was already at their usual spot.

Dunce saw Lhan the moment she emerged from the hall towards the stairs to VIP section. He followed her with his gaze smilingly thinking that she would come to him straight.

At first, Lhan stopped as soon as she reached the second floor and looked at them before she continued walking and halted in front of the young Mayor. Dunce felt enraged as he expected that she would come to him.

His friends noticed that his gaze was fixed on the stairs. They silently observed what was happening. Aljun was aware that the young Mayor had a thing for Lhan but he remained mum. They saw that Lhan was talking with him.

After 2minutes, Lhan walked towards them. Nervously smiling at them, he greeted all of them and went closer to Dunce. She whispered something to him before they walked back to where the Mayor was while holding hands.

Dunce felt that Lhan's hand was shaking. "Are you afraid of him?" There was a smile on his face covering up a fury.

"Don't smile. I am terrified most especially in people who are either police or government officials." She said nervously.

"Calm down, I'm here with you." He reassured her. His fury was slowly washed away knowing that Lhan considered to seek help from him among others.

"Mayor, meet my boyfriend, Dunce." Lhan introduced Dunce as soon as they came closer to the young Mayor who was currently drinking his wine.

"Mayor Crown! Good evening. I don't know you are acquainted with my girlfriend." Dunce grinned and sat uninvitedly near the young Mayor.

Dunce, being one of the outstanding young business moguls was also well known not only at their city but all through the country. His name was widely spread in the nation. He became a model to aspiring young businessmen. Though not many had seen him personally, Mayor Crown was one of the few who had seen him several times because of Dunce’ mom participation of different charity healthcare institutions.

As Dunce settled, he gently pulled Lhan to sat beside her. He rested his arm around Lhan's shoulder as a silent declaration that she was his girl.

"Is she really your girlfriend? I don't know that Lhan knows you. Is she the reason why you hang here instead of the VIP box?" The young Mayor was not convinced.

He looked at him seriously, "Yeah. Guarding my girl." Short but condescending.

The Mayor paused a bit, his face also turned serious. "My bad. Okay." Still not willing to give up, he shifted his stare at Lhan who's head was bowed and said, "But Lhan my offer is still available. Just in case you need it."

"I don't think I'll be needing it Mayor." Lhan was shaken that she raised her head and looked at him.

"May I know what offer is it Mayor?" Dunce was curious but he already had an idea what he was talking about. He felt like punching the guy sitting near him. 'Bastard!' His mind cursed.

"Not a big deal just some friendly help. You know, something like scholarship." The young Mayor took a sip before he casually answered.

"Ah...I don't think Lhan need it. With that kind of brain she has the school already gave her a full scholarship. Until now I keep persuading her to stop working and let me pay whatever expenses she needed, but this girl of mine is so hardworking and stubborn. She doesn't like to use my money." A long explanation was enough to shut the Mayor up.

Lhan wanted to applaud Dunce. He was such a good actor, or lier?

"Oh! Such an adorable lady, isn't she?" Mayor said it while looking away at them.

"Yeah. However, this character of hers makes me worried. You know, guys mostly are natural predator and lustful so I have to keep an eye of her." Dunce sternly said hinting the Mayor that he was one of those kinds of guys.

"You are right. Especially that she can naturally attracts bees." Still relaxedly and calmly uttered by the Mayor as if claiming that it was Lhan's fault for being pretty that's why men came to her.

"Ahm, I have to go." With her eagerness to escape the Mayor's presence, Lhan's chose to stand up. She could barely understand what they were talking about.

"Sure." But before she could walk away, Dunce planted a light and gentle but fast kiss on her lips. "I'll wait for you here."

She was stunned for a second but gained her control so not to arouse any suspicion from the Mayor who was still looking at her.

"I'll go back now with my friends, Mayor. The drinks on me tonight." Dunce bid her goodbye as he knew that the purpose of talking to him was accomplished.

Without their knowledge, the young Mayor was so furious that Lhan had a relationship with someone else. 'I met her first, liked her first and now someone would just take possession of her.' The wine glass that he held suddenly turned into broken pieces as those words popped his mind.

Dunce sauntered back to his friends who were shocked maybe from the sudden kiss he gave to Lhan. Jaden even whistled.

Before he could walked away from the Mayor his sense caught the sound of breaking glass.

"What happened?" It was Jaden who was always brave enough to pry.

"My wife is being poached. Patience is a real virtue. Ahh, my wife is now my girlfriend." Dunce.

"Since when?" It was Aljun who asked further.

"Two minutes ago. I have to thank the Mayor." Dunce was laughing but they all knew that he wasn't happy at all. His eyes were full of rage.

"You're that happy?" Thedd sarcastically said.

"Why not? It is such a good timing."

"Patience is a virtue but you didn't really wait and act that long." Jaden.

"I normally don't wait for girls. This is actually the first time that I honestly confessed and waited for months before she agreed to be my girlfriend." He seriously claimed.

"Yeah! Under special circumstances. Isn't she just using you as a shield?" Thedd was trying to let him know that their relationship was superficial.

"I don't care. Now that she said yes, she could no longer back out. In time she will fall for me. Be quiet now. I want to enjoy my wife's performance." Dunce looked at Aljun and wanted to question him why did he not inform him. But he just kept it to himself.

"Dunce...!" Aljun saw his questioning eyes so he decided to share a bit of info about Lhan and the Mayor.

"Hmmm?" He hummed casually. However, both knew he was waiting for his explanation.

"He's been pursuing Lhan since he laid his eyes on her. Fleur told me once that Lhan was almost r***d by a politician and a police officer when she was in junior high school. She was traumatized that she develops a fear of seeing men who work on that fields. That's why she didn't like Marco Crown. Also, she felt that someone is stalking her that started when she met the Mayor. Although we caught the stalker, she still feels that someone is still there following her. Whether it is true or just a paranoia, she only feels at ease if the Mayor is out of town. But now that he is back. She might become wary again." It was a short story but all the necessary details were covered by Aljun.

Dunce didn't react but to Aljun he knew that his friend would take note of it.
