CHAPTER 14: SURE

1401 Words
After the long night, Dunce drove Lhan to her flat as usual. Lhan couldn't understand why of all men only Dunce could make her feel relaxed and calmed. Although there were instances that she became anxious, those weird feelings were not totally hateful compared to how she felt with others. To her, he was different. She liked how his eyes were different from others. Mostly men's eyes gave her uncomfortable feelings that was why she didn’t look at the crowd whenever she performs. Honestly, Lhan really did not like to be in a relationship but somehow with Dunce she felt at ease. At first, she was irritated with his constant plaguing. But a part of her was joyous every time she could see him. "Are you mad?" Lhan inquired as he noticed that Dunce was silent. "No." His answer was short but devoid of emotion. Minutes passed he spoke again. "Let me tell you, when you say that I am your boyfriend in front of that jerk I took it seriously. I know you only did it to drive him away. But for me..." He focused on the road while talking afraid of looking at Lhan's eyes. "I know." Lhan interjected. She already decided to give this relationship a chance. When he noticed that Lhan remained silent he tried to probe, "Aren't you going to convince me that it was all an act, a lie that you don't have a choice that's why you said I am your boyfriend but in truth I am not?" "Do you want me to convince you?" Lhan wasn't sure of what Dunce wanted to say. "Of course not!" Dunce never felt any uncertainties in his life even during the hardest time in their comapny, but with Lhan he suddenly was strike with skepticism. Lhan looked at him before she said, "Okay." Dunce felt frustrated with Lhan's ambiguous word. "Okay what?" "Okay that you are my boyfriend!" She assured. Dunce was so stunned that he swerved the car causing a skidding sound and parked it on the emergency bay abruptly. Good thing that the road was empty or else they might had caught an accident. He couldn't still believe that Lhan just said that. He already equipped himself with arguments and logical reasons so she would not take back what she said earlier tonight, him as her boyfriend. As soon as he pulled over, Dunce stared at Lhan with fervid. A smile transformed his unrelenting face as if he was dreaming. Lhan smiled at him back. This was the first smile that he received from her. And to him it was the prettiest smile he had seen. "Right..." the only word he could utter then he gleefully maneuvered the car back to track. He was so elated that he could not think of other words to say. For once, he felt so satisfied that he worked hard on something he really wanted. Getting a billion worth of business deal was not even incomparable as to how he felt now. Afraid that Lhan would take it back so he kept quiet. Happily, silent. His smile was pasted on his face for the whole time they travelled. When they stopped at Lhan's flat she told him, "Don't get out. I know you are tired at work today. Go home and sleep well. I'll see you tomorrow." Lhan kissed him on his cheeks before she opened the car door. Dunce shook his head smilingly. 'That was fast.' He said talking about the kiss. 'But I can be patient.' When he saw Lhan entered the building he then drove away. But his mind kept on saying, ‘Yes!’ The next day, during lunch break, Fleur called Lhan to eat together with Gideon and Elise in the school canteen, only to ask if it's true that she was in a relationship with Dunce. Lhan admitted and told them how she said yes to Dunce. Although they were happy for Lhan's new found relationship, Fleur still thought that her way of saying yes to Dunce was a little bit inappropriate. The three felt sorry towards Dunce as they thought that Lhan was only using him as shield. Little did they know that Lhan already considered to be with Dunce even before the incident with Mayor Marco. She just didn't know how to open up with him that's why what happened last night was a blessing in disguise. While they were having a chat, a constant notification kept ringing on Lhan's phone. Gideon was the first to complain. "Hey, girl. Aren't you going to answer that messages? It's annoying. Better silence it if you are not going to response." Lhan pulled her phone and checked her messages. Elise peeked, "That's a lot of messages!" "From Mr. Dunce?" Fleur questioned. "We just separated at around three or four in the morning. Now I was bombarded with messages." Though she complained her eyes were dancing as she read them. "Hahaha! Isn't that normal? He kept on sending you messages even before you became a couple." Gideon. "Yeah. But this time the messages tripled." Lhan continue to read one by one. "Maybe because you arent replying?” Elise. "Do I need to reply? He is just texting me some cheesy messages like good morning, I miss you, hope to be beside you and the likes. There's no question at all so why would I reply?" Lhan innocently replied. "Oh my gosh Lhan! You're helpless. The IQ test that they used to measure your intelligence must be a scam. Tell me, do you usually not answer Dunce messages?" Gideon was amazed at how naïve she was. Unsure of what to say, Lhan looked at her friends one by one and said, "Yeah...?" "How did he react?" It was Fleur who asked a follow up question. "He just asked me if I received them and I say yes I received and read them." She answered back. "And that's it?" Lhan nodded to answer Gideon's "Poor, Mr. Dunce. How did he fall for you?" "That is also one of my questions. But I am sure of my feelings for him now." Lhan declared. Lhan's friends felt like crying with her response. The three had the same prayers, 'Lord, bless their relationship.' Meanwhile, at Frost Company earlier same day. Dunce went to his office earlier than usual. He had a goodnight sleep even if it was just a catnap. He was so happy that the first thing he did as soon as he woke up was to send sweet messages to Lhan. But he didnt received any response from her. Though normally Lhan wasn't responding to his messages before, he expected that somehow today was different. He's her boyfriend now. 'Was last night a dream?' He was in cogitative state when Leif arrived. "Is there a problem, Sir?" Leif was hesitant when he asked his boss. Dunce was seemingly woke from his deep thoughts when he heard Leif. He didn't notice him enter at all. He glanced at his phone and checked it for incoming messages but still no notification at all. He deeply sighed before he gave orders to Leif. Soon his secretary arrived as well handing him some paper works that needed to be reviewed before signing. He sighed several times after constantly checking his phone. Worried, his secretary named Mia asked him, "Is there a problem, Dunce?" Mia was accustomed of calling him by his pet names given the fact that she was almost three decades older than him. As a sign of respect, Dunce called her Aunt Mia whenever they were alone. She and his mother were closed friends that why they were familiar to each other. Dunce propped his chin and looked at his secretary weighing his thoughts whether to asked the woman in front of him or not. Mia was on her late 40's so Dunce felt that maybe she could help with his worries. "Aunt Mia, what are the odds of not answering your boy friends messages?" "Oh my! Do you have girlfriend now?" Like a mother happy to see his son start a relationship, Aunt Mia was excited. Dunce awkwardly scratch his head to the old ladies excitement. Aunt Mia was happy seeing his shyness. "Ahh, never mind. I'm done with these. You can give it to our Attorney for notarization." Dunce dismissed his secretary with regrets for blurting his heart problems.
