It's him—the ruthless Lycan king who had killed my parents. The revelation hung heavy in the air, like a dark shadow over the room.
The pack doctor and Beta Zach left the room, sensing the fizz of tension that now filled the space. I couldn't tear my gaze away from him. Anger stirred within me and I felt it building.
Sasha whimpered, sensing the agony that gripped me, as the Lycan king's gaze bore into mine. His presence felt like a threat, and I struggled to contain the emotions that threatened to burst out.
Then I finally found my voice. "You?" I uttered, my question hanging in the air. His face remained locked into mine, emotionless, as I sensed him moving.
Instinctively, I pushed myself back into the bed, creating a physical distance, but the emotional turmoil remained, with the harsh truth.
I didn't want to believe it was anything other than a dream, but when he moved closer to me, the wave of disbelief shattered. It was all real; he was here, a reality that sent chills down my spine.
He reached out for my hand, which was placed on the bed. My heart raced, conflicted emotions sparking within me.
Anger seeped through, and I screamed, "Don't you dare touch me!"
He paused, cold eyes locking onto mine, amusement playing in his dark gaze. His lips curled up at the corner, a sinister expression that sent a shiver down my spine.
"Mate," Sasha's voice echoed in my head. A whisper escaping my lips as my strength drained away. "Please let me go," I pleaded. Desperate for an escape from this chilling reality.
He tilted his head as his hand reached out to my cheek and said, "Not on my watch, mate."
I felt a magnetic pull as I felt my stomach twisted in tight knots, a connection that defied reason as I wrestled to pull away.
"You are truly beautiful," he muttered as he pulled his hand away.
Finding one's mate should be a blessing, but I felt disappointed; the fact that he has a mate mark on his neck makes my heart tug.
"How can he be my mate? He has a mark on his neck like he had been marked by someone else, coupled with the fact that he killed my parents."
Then I found my voice and stuttered, "Y..you k.killed my parents. Moon goddess, have to be kidding with me."
"You sound disappointed," he said as he arched his brows with no show of emotion. After all, he is the ruthless Lycan king of the Moonpeak Pack.
His name alone invokes fear; the tales of his fierce action in battle spread like wildfire. He strikes terror into the hearts of those who dare cross his path, and people fear the mere mention of his name.
Tears flow from my eyes freely without control. "I don't want to be here," I whined.
He cupped my cheek. I was taken aback as my breath hitched in my throat, sparks hitting me at full force. I felt disgusted as I hurriedly shook my head and pried his hand off my face.
I sensed him stiff at my touch, with a slight hint of some emotions in his eyes. Immediately, as it came, it went away, the coldness returning.
He got up, gave me a long stare, and walked out the door.
Moon goddess has so much hate for me to give me a mate like Kessler. I couldn't bear it as pain squeezed my heart. I can't accept him as my mate. No, I can't, as a surge of emotions overwhelmed me.
I was numb, helpless, and drained of emotions as I grabbed my hair with anger and let out a loud cry.
"f**k my life, I can't be like this, crying like a lady in distress. I've been broken before and won't allow it to repeat itself," I muttered, taking a look at the door as a smile rose to my lips.
Hastily, I pushed myself up from the bed, my heart pounding with beats as I moved to the door. With determined steps, I walked out of the room, looking around; there was no one in sight.
I made my way and saw two guys talking, feeling relieved when they didn't glance my way.
I let out a sigh I didn't know I was holding as I found myself breathing in the fresh air.
"Where are we going?" Sasha asked in my head.
"Anywhere, but not here," I replied defiantly.
"But he is our mate," she said as I rolled my eyes.
There was a sort of celebration going on. I hid in a corner until the coast was clear, then tiptoed and went out the gate of the Moonpeak Pack.
Overwhelmed with joy, I ran into the woods and paused for a while to catch my breath. I took off my clothes, shifted to my wolf form, and carried my clothes in my mouth as I ran, not looking back for once.
With each step, I contemplated where to go. I can't go back to Tristan; I know he wants me dead. I didn't have a plan. It was stupid to stay with someone who killed my parents.
"I can't accept him as my fated mate. If I had the chance, I'd reject him," Sasha groaned in my head at the thought of rejecting my mate.
Tired, I stopped at a tree. I shifted back into my human form, wore my dress, and leaned on a tree trunk. Within minutes, I slept off.
I sensed something was off as I noticed footsteps around me. I opened my eyes, looked around, and realized I was surrounded by wolves. They weren't familiar.
I panicked and hurriedly stood up, trying to shift into my wolf. Then, a man stepped out and said, "Don't bother."
My eyes widened like saucers as I realized who he was. His voice sent chills down my spine as memories flooded my mind.
