Chapter 2 2026

Nelson had just arrived at the meeting room. It was a meeting with the top executives of the company that had long been overdue. Any time it was scheduled, something strange happened, and it had to be rescheduled. The executives couldn't help but pray that things would go right this time. "Please, let's begin." His assistant announced, finally, as soon as Nelson Clark was seated. "Yes sir," one of the executives responded and stood up. Then he began to explain his proposition. "We wanted to..." Before he could finish his sentence, he was suddenly interrupted by the sound of something vibrating. The meeting room became instantly quiet... The only sound made was the vibrating phone. The men seated all turned to look at each other, asking themselves with their eyes whose phone it was. No one had the guts to keep their phone on at such an important meeting. Well... No one except... "Boss it's yours." Hillard... Nelson's assistant leaned to whisper in his ear. Nelson frowned before picking up the phone from the desk. It was an unknown number, but that didn't stop him from answering it. As soon as he picked up the call, a kid's voice came through. It sounded as though it was an emergency. "Daddy, Mummy, and I are in the police station, please come quickly." Nelson's eyes darkened, and his hold on his phone tightened. The police station? He clenched his jaw. 'What does that woman want to do with my child now?' He thought it up before standing up. Nelson ignored the worried and not-so-surprised looks he got from the executive and just walked out of the meeting room. "Boss... Mr. Clark, Mr. Clark?!" They yelled after him, but didn't bother to turn around. He was too angry. They all waited for him to be completely out of earshot before speaking again. "Again? When would we ever have this meeting?" One of them complained, slamming the file he held in his hand on the chair. He was the same one who had stood up earlier to explain the current situation of the company. It wasn't something too serious, but for the past few weeks, they hardly saw their boss in the office. The employees were starting to get worried. They were behind in a lot of things. Another sighed, shaking his head. "I am certain that this is because of his wife. Mr. Clark has suffered a lot because of her." He said and most of the executives nodded in agreement. It was no secret that the boss and his wife weren't getting along. They had witnessed the boss's woman do several things just to get Mr. Clark annoyed. She was one of the reasons the meeting was important. Especially after what she did the last time she was here... "Why won't he just get a divorce already? It would do him good." The last person had just finished speaking when Nelson's assistant, who had been present the entire time, suddenly spoke. "You should refrain from talking about Mr. Clark's personal life, unless you wish to be sued for slander." Everyone instantly turned to him in shock. They had forgotten that he was still around. That was why they spoke so freely. They quickly apologized, shrinking back to their seats in fear. Hillard didn't spare them another glance. After speaking, he turned and walked out of the room. ... Nelson quickly rushed to the police station after his son's call. "What is going on here?" He asked as soon as he got in, his breathing a bit heavy because of how fast he walked. He didn't dare to think about what Irene could do to their son. She was his mother yet he was so worried. "Daddy?" Will ran to hug him, throwing himself forward. Nelson caught him with ease before standing up straight to look at his wife. "Nelson Clark..." She whispered his name as though in shock. Irene couldn't believe it. It was him. "It's you... Or is it not?" She muttered under her breath. Maybe... Maybe it was his older brother, she tried to reason, refusing to believe the scene in front of her eyes. But... She had known Nelson for over three years now. He was an only child, so it couldn't have been a sibling. So... A lookalike? Before she could have time to think, she felt his cold eyes on hers. "What did you do this time, Irene?" Nelson asked coldly, glaring at her. "Me?" Irene was petrified. He always had a way of making her scared. She took her step back and gulped. "You know my name, but..." She shook her head... It was him. "H...how did you get so mature? So handsome, what is this?" She muttered out loud, taking another step backwards, only for her back to be met with the cold, hard counter. Then a thought came to her head and her face became flushed with anger instantly. "No, don't tell me that this is another one of your tricks to bully me?" She asked, her tone trembling with rage. "How far would you go Enel?" Enel? Nelson froze for a second, then he took an intimidating step forward towards her. "What did you just call me?" No one had called him that since he left highschool, including her... And she was the one who invented the nickname. Nelson didn't understand what trick Irene was pulling this time to get him to divorce her. But whatever it was, he wasn't going to let it get to him. He walked towards her and grabbed her hand, intending to lead her out of the police station. "Come here..." "Let me go!" Irene struggled, forcing her hand away from his strong grip. 'How did he get so much stronger?' "What is this?!" She yelled feeling insulted. " Did you hire a child actor? How far would you go just to punish me? Huh?" Her tone cracked with a sob, her eyes blurry with tears which she refused to let fall. "Why do you hate me so much?" "Hate you?" Nelson wanted to laugh. Then his face turned stoic. It became even colder than before. "You think I hate you? Irene, you took our son to meet with your bloody lover!" He had been briefed about Irene's visit in the car and he couldn't be more annoyed. She had brought their son to meet up with her lover so Will could convince him to agree to the divorce. But the lover had jilted her. Irene's eyes widened. Lover? "What? I... I did what?" Her words were incoherent in shock. She had a lover? "No." She snorted shaking her head. "That's not possible..." She didn't even have a boyfriend, how could she have a lover?! "How can I... I don't even..." She turned away unable to look at Nelson's face. But then her eyes caught something... Something striking. All the blood drained from her face as she turned around to look at the police officer while pointing at the calendar she had just seen. "Wait..." She gulped, her voice shaking. "What year is it?" "Huh? Year?" The police man repeated in surprise. That was an odd question to be asked. He had already concluded that it was just a family feud and the lady wasn't crazy but throwing a tantrum, and then he was asked this? He turned to the calendar she was pointing at and answered. "It's 2026... January 25" Irene felt like she had just been hit by a thunderbolt. "20... No, this is... No..." She shook her head unable to believe her ears. It was 2019... She was in... The shock was just too much for her... Irene couldn't take it. Her eyes rolled backwards, and her knees gave way. "Irene!" Nelson was quick. He rushed to her side and caught her before she fell. "Mummy!" Will yelled jumping down from his father's hands so Nelson could hold Irene better. "William, head to the car, I will bring your mother," Nelson instructed the child, who nodded and then walked out. Nelson slowly carried Irene bridal style with ease... She had almost no weight. He was panicking inside, but was more worried. She was acting much more strangely than normal. But somehow, it felt... Right.
