Chapter 19Two nights later, I stood at Daniel’s side in the little church on the reservation while he married That Woman. Damn her! She was easy on the eyes, and I hated her for it. But in truth, he was as beautiful as she was. He was tall and manly and smooth-skinned and muscled. I saw a word once in a book that I liked, and it described him. Comely. He was comely.
In a few minutes it was over, and as best man I had to kiss her. I just brushed her lips with mine, which was all right with her, I’m sure. Then I pumped his hand, wishing it was something else. But that was over, I guess.
Then it really hit me…square between the eyes. Daniel and me wouldn’t lay in one another’s arms no more. We wouldn’t touch private places and do personal things and love like we had before.
