Greg's POV Just then, Maxen stepped closer, his movements slow and deliberate. He hesitated for a moment, rubbing the back of his neck like he was working up the courage to speak. I didn’t like it. Maxen was never hesitant. “She’s becoming a problem, Don,” he finally said. I froze, staring at him, not sure if I had heard him right. “A problem?” I echoed. Maxen met my eyes, his expression serious. “Yes. A distraction. For you. For everyone. She’s causing more trouble than she’s worth.” A distraction. The words didn’t sit right with me.
