“Wow, who is this breathtaking queen you've got here?” She inquired.
“Madre, this is Aurora. She will be staying here with us for a little bit,” Greg replied, revealing himself as he stepped away from his hiding place.
Bianca dropped quickly from my hold, running off quickly to her grandmother’s side.
“Is this your new wife?” She questioned scanning me with her eyes and watching me tremble nervously. She seemed to be enjoying it.
“No, Madre. She's just here for a little while.”
“You should start planning on taking a new wife, you can't continue to be hung up on Selene’s memory forever.”
I turned to Greg to find his hand folding into a fist, an evident rage sweeping over him as his bright turquoise eyes became deeper.
It was easy to tell the identity of Selene, she is the mother of Bianca, judging from the dark rage he was exuding.
“Can we not talk about this, in front of our guest?” He queried and immediately the door opened and Maxen stepped into the patio. He had a look of amusement across his face, as he tried to make sense of the scene before him.
“Boss, duty calls.” He announced.
“I will be with you soon, just go with my Madre(Mother), she is a better company than I am. You’d have more fun with her and make sure your lips are sealed about “the kidnap.” He says with an air quote indication.
As he walked out of the Patio, it took a while for me to remember that this was a dangerous man I was involved with and I needed not to let my guard down as I followed his mother to her room.
“Seems like you two are fond of each other,” She says while setting Bianca down for a hairdo.
“Well, I wouldn’t exactly say that, but we do get along quite well.”
She motioned for me to take a seat while handing a toy to Bianca so she could sit still while she did her hair.
“I apologize for Greg’s impolite behavior. I know him better than anyone else and I do not need to be told how he might have treated you and for that, I truly apologize.” I was taken aback by her sincere apology.
How could it be that such a sweet and kind woman had given birth to an exact opposite, they were two worlds apart. I guess the opposite attracts.
“How long has he been doing this, you know; the business?” I asked, with a hint of curiosity.
She heaved a heavy sigh before she responded.”Greg has always been fascinated with things people could not quite understand, he was obsessed with the quest for power and wealth which pushed him into the underground business since he was a teenager.”
“I tried so hard to talk him out of it but all to no avail. Growing up without a father figure had so many negative effects on him, I must say.”
The pain in her eyes was as clear as day as she narrated this to me.
“So you are aware that your son is wanted for his notorious and illegal activities?” I asked, curiously.
“Do not believe everything you see on the news or read on the internet. The media has been known to perpetuate evil by cooking up lies that are told over and over till they become the truth. But, I might as well let you know the truth. My son is a young man simply committed to the growth of his family as well as his business.”
“And by business you mean, illegal export and import of drugs? Murdering whoever gets in the way of his business and also supplying admonitions to top personnel to murder each other? Pretty solid business your son has going on for him.” I replied, sarcasm evident in my tone.
“Where did Greg pick you up from?” She inquired and I was tempted to reveal everything to her but a flashback from Greg’s threat hit me and I sealed my lips.
“At a party,” I replied
“Hmmm, so you are just another girl. One of his whores I presume.” I gasped silently, almost enraged and she quickly noticed from my countenance. “Wait, if you are who I think you are then who are you and why are you here?”
“My name is Aurora and I am a therapist.”
“What? A therapist? Has Greg lost it? Tell me, why are you here?” She asked, curiosity getting the best part of her.
The door suddenly flings open to reveal one of Greg’s gang members who I had just roasted a few hours ago, his eyes held a fit of anger as he stared at me. “Larry, why are you here?” She questions him.
“The boss asked that I bring Aurora to him, now.” He responds.
“Okay then, I will see you around, Aurora.” She says, “Please be nice to my son and take good care of him. I may not be there for him in ways I want to but if he lets you then do it for me. You have brought so much relief to me after what had happened with his previous wife.
As I followed Larry, I couldn’t help but ponder on what might have happened to Greg’s wife and soon we arrived at a room that was designed more like an office.
Greg had some documents he was sorting out and gestured to Larry to take his leave. Immediately the phone placed on the table rang and he picked it up in a hurry.
“What’s that you were talking about killing Aurora again?” My heart skipped and the entire world paused for a minute in hearing these words escape from his lips.
“If anything happens to her, I promise you I will find you and I won’t be offering you an easy death.” I looked at the phone to realize the voice on the other end was familiar.
“Dennis, you’re such a scaredy cat, if I wanted Aurora dead, she would be long gone from the very first time she set foot in my cell room,” Greg replied.
“Go ahead and speak to her, she can hear you.” He says pushing the phone closer to me and gesturing to me to speak.
“Dennis?”
“Aurora! Oh my goodness, thank heavens you are okay. Did he hurt you? Talk to me Aurora.” Dennis asked, his voice etched with concern.
“I am okay, Dennis. He didn’t do anything to hurt me, but I want to get out of here, I’m scared…” Greg pulled the phone away from me instinctively.
“Is that proof enough for you?” He demanded.
“What do you want, Greg?” Dennis asked
“You know exactly what I need, so stop fooling around and get to it.”
“You can’t just force me to clear out your illegal goods, these things follow a procedure, my signature would be all over it and you are a prospective criminal. What is your plan? to drag me down with you?” Dennis replied.
“Now, you listen and listen carefully, Dennis. We both know how this goes, you have cleared shipments for some people through your connections and remained unanimous. Look, I am not going to emphasize this matter again, you know what needs to be done then do it. Don’t even bother trying to track my location because you would never get me.” He concluded and hung up.
“Are you using me for bait to clear your illegal shipment?” I asked, already furious.
“Relax, sweetheart. I’m going to use you for a lot of things he says walking towards me. I stared at him cautiously, studying his every move as sat gently on the table in front of me.
“My ex-wife Selene was murdered in cold blood.”
