Shit!!
I couldn’t hesitate anymore because whoever it was, they were getting closer, and if I didn’t act now, I would lose my chance.
Taking a deep breath, I reached out quickly but carefully. My fingers touched the cold metal of the key. I held my breath, my heart racing, as I slowly pulled it off his belt. For a moment, I froze, waiting to see if the guard would notice.
But thankfully he didn’t.
Instead, he turned slightly, his head tilting towards the sound of the voice, his attention fully diverted.
I felt a wave of relief, but it was short-lived. The sharp click of footsteps drawing nearer filled the air, and I realized that whoever was coming would see me standing too close to the guard, and it would look suspicious.
