Chapter 24

1144 Words

Aurora's POV In that moment, I froze. My mind was spinning, searching desperately for something to say, anything at all. No matter what, I couldn’t tell her the truth. If I did, I was sure Greg would actually kill me—or worse. My grip on the flower vase tightened, and I could feel my pulse pounding in my ears. My eyes darted between Greg and his mother, both of them waiting for me to speak. Think, Aurora. Think. Slowly, I placed the vase back on the shelf. My hands were trembling so much I almost dropped it, but somehow, I managed to set it down without making a sound. Then, without thinking, I blurted out, “We’re dating.” The words left my mouth before I could stop them. There was a deafening pause, and I squeezed my eyes shut, bracing myself for the explosion I knew was coming.
