Greg's POV THREE WEEKS LATER The mansion was too quiet, the kind of quiet I wasn’t used to. I walked through the big hallways, the polished floors shining as the sunlight poured in through the tall windows. Everything here was new—new furniture, new artwork, even the faint scent of fresh paint still hung in the air. It was so different from the chaos that had ruled my life just weeks ago. Stopping in front of a large painting I had recently bought, I let out a small laugh. It was an odd piece, something abstract and way too expensive, but for some reason, I liked it. My phone buzzed in my pocket, breaking the silence. I pulled it out to see Lucas’s name on the screen. “Lucas,” I answered. “Don, I’ve got news. The newly elected Mayor wants to meet with you. He says it’s urgent.”
