Chapter Thirty – KateNew Year's Eve 2015. 8.55am I stare at the round pills in my palm and gulp them down. I wish they contained a bigger dose to help take the edge off. I close my eyes, sip water and feel the tablets float aimlessly on my tongue. I tuck the blister packet back inside my make-up bag before Taylor re-emerges. It is better he doesn't know; he'll only end up asking me too many questions that I don't want to answer. If the truth came out now, he would be heartbroken that I had kept it from him, perhaps angry even. At the time, I believed I'd made the right decision, though it would have helped having someone to talk to. Keeping a secret of this magnitude is the hardest thing I have ever had to do. It's changed me and not for the better. Sometimes I don't recognise myself.
