Chapter Twenty-Six – DCI BeckleyMy fist slams the red circular panic button; it's deafening. Kate needs urgent medical help. She could choke on her own vomit. She's cocooned, lying unconscious in a foetal position.
DI Wakeman and PC Matt Holtby emerge. Holtby administers first aid, while Wakeman informs me that a first responder has been dispatched. Holtby studies Kate through his black metal rimmed glasses, closely assessing her condition. He lifts Kate's chin and tilts her head backwards. He uses his forefinger to dislodge any vomit latched to her tongue and ensure that her airway is clear.
Her left hand is placed under her right cheek. He grips her left shoulder and leg, and gently rolls her towards him to rest in the recovery position.
