The adrenaline hadn’t even cooled in my veins when Kai pulled me aside.
We hadn’t made it far from the cafeteria before he grabbed my arm, eyes sharp with questions he didn’t even bother sugarcoating.
“You good?” he asked, but it wasn't a big concern, it was the kind of tone older brothers used when they’d already heard the rumors and just wanted to hear it straight from the source.
I ran a hand through my hair, still trying to catch my breath. “I’m fine.”
Kai stared at me, unmoved. “That? Back there? In front of the whole damn school? You sure you’re not spiraling or something?”
I chuckled dryly. “That was me being sane for once.”
