Fractured Silence

1043 Words

Nathan’s POV The silence in the car is unbearable. It’s not the comfortable kind of silence. It feels like the kind where two people simply just coexist in a shared space. No, this silence is heavy, sharp, and suffocating. It makes me feel uncomfortable, making my grip on the steering wheel even tighter. My knuckles ache, but I don’t loosen my hold. I glance at Abigail out of the corner of my eye. She’s sitting rigidly in the passenger seat, her head leaning against the window, her face turned away from me. Her arms are crossed tightly over her chest, as if trying to protect herself from something—or maybe from me. She looks small, vulnerable. It’s not a word I would normally associate with her. Abigail is stubborn and fiery, the kind of person who meets challenges head-on.
