Chapter Two – Broken Promises
Claire sat on her bed, holding her phone tight in her hands. The screen was dark. No new messages. No calls. Days had passed since Ethan last spoke to her.
At first, she thought he was busy. Maybe school, maybe family matters. But soon, days turned into weeks. Every time she called, the line didn’t go through. Every message she sent showed only one tick. He had blocked her.
Her heart broke in ways she could not explain. She replayed their last moments together in her head. The way he smiled at her. The way he held her hands and said she was his forever. Had all of that been a lie?
Claire cried until she had no more tears left. She felt abandoned, unwanted, and betrayed.
Her best friend, Anna, tried to comfort her.
“Maybe he’s just going through something,” Anna said softly.
“No,” Claire whispered, shaking her head. “If he loved me, he wouldn’t leave me like this. Not without a word.”
That night, Claire stood in front of her mirror, looking at her tired eyes. “If he thinks I’ll beg forever, he’s wrong,” she told herself. “One day, he’ll see me again. And when he does, I won’t be the same girl who cried for him. I’ll be stronger. And I’ll make sure he feels the pain he gave me.”
But what Claire didn’t know was that Ethan was still close, watching her from the shadows.
He stood across the street sometimes, making sure she got home safely. He spoke to people quietly, making sure no harm came to her. When her school fees almost forced her to drop out, Ethan secretly arranged for a scholarship in her name.
Every act of kindness was done in silence. He wanted to be there for her, but he couldn’t show his face. His parents’ warning echoed in his head every day: Stay away from her, or we will destroy her life.
So Ethan hid his love in silence, even though it burned inside him.
Years passed this way. Claire grew stronger, harder, more determined. She buried her soft heart beneath anger and pride. To the world, she was fine. But deep inside, she never forgave Ethan.
And Ethan—he waited. He hoped that one day his parents would soften, that they would let him choose his own path. But their hearts stayed cold. They would never allow Claire into the family.
Ethan’s love had turned into a secret promise. A silent vow to one day find a way back to her.
But by the time their paths crossed again, things would not be simple. Claire was no longer waiting for love. She was waiting for revenge.
