Chapter 4

1096 Words
We stayed there for about an hour or so chatting about the upcoming homecoming game and how Soren and Ezran are excited about this game because we are going against our rival school. We've won against them every year since we were first year students, some people think we cheat, which in a way, I guess we kind of do because we have two werewolves on our team and their speed and agility is unmatched. After we were done eating, we got up to leave, and I was holding Soren's hand while walking out the door. The whole time, the guy from before was eyeing me up and down, like he was taking all of me in, but his eyes stopped at mine and Soren's interlocked hands and looked like he was a mix of hurt and angry. We stood outside a little longer before Soren said, "I'll see you all later. If I'm late, my mom's going to kill me. I love you, baby." He kisses me goodbye and leaves. "Hey, what were you staring at?" Lily asked through mind link. "Mate." I said to her. Her eyes got huge, but before she could say anything, I gave her the look of "you better not say a damn thing," and she regained her composure. "C'mon guys," Lily says, "there's a shop I want to go to before the party tonight that had some cute accessories I want to pair with my dress." The twins declined with Ezran saying that they also needed to get home because it was going to take Elsie an eternity just to fix her hair. Which, in turn, earned him a slap in the arm from Elsie and a laugh from Lily and me. We said our goodbyes and headed home. On the way back, Lily would not stop with the questions about what happened at the diner. Despite my protest because I didn't want to think about the fact that I was imagining him f*****g me until I wasn't able to walk while I was literally sitting next to my BOYFRIEND. God, I feel like such a s**t person for that. "So, since you found your mate, does that mean you're going to break up with Soren?" She asked. I gave a look of "stop," but she kept poking. "I'm serious. Destined mates happen for a reason. Plus, it would be a good thing for you to have someone you don't have to lie to about who you are. I see that it hurts you that Soren can't be around the pack as much as you want him to be, and your dad will finally stop being a total ass to you for being with him." "It's not as simple as that, Lily. He and I have been together for the last three years, and I can't just give that up. I love him. With my dad, it's not about Soren that makes him an asshole and you know that. He hasn't been the same since Uncle Silas died. he hasn't tried to get help and never will. Besides, I'm not entirely sure if he really is my mate or not like Artemis said, but it doesn't matter anyway because I'll probably never see that guy again, so just drop it." She threw one hand up and left it alone. Before we started getting all dressed up, we tried to see if we could convince my parents to let me go to Sorens instead. Unfortunately, my mom was already at the packhouse, and talking to my dad is like talking to a brick wall; he never wants to hear anything I have to say. It's either do what he says or I get a beating. Which is exactly what happened. "For the last time, I said NO!" Dad screamed in my face while pinning me against the wall by my throat. Lily and I tried for about twenty minutes before he started getting mad. "If you don't stop, I'm going to tell my dad!" Lily screamed at the top of her lungs while trying to get dad to release his grip on my neck. He just laughed in her face and turned his attention back to me. "I'm not going to tell you again you little b***h, you're not going to your little boyfriends house. You need to make an appearance at that party because you're my daughter, and I refuse to be made a fool of because you're screwing around with a human." He said as his grip got tighter around my throat. My head was feeling fuzzy, and my vision started to go black. I choked out "ok" and Dad let go. I texted Soren and let him know I couldn't go and went upstairs to get dressed. While up in my room, Lily was trying to help cover the fingerprints and small punctures Dad left on my neck. It was no use, though. Anyone with eyes could see the bruising. I looked in the mirror at my body, and it's full of scars and faded bruises from the abuse Haddix and I have been through for the past eleven years. I looked at the scar on my right arm where Dad threw a whiskey bottle beside me, and it shattered against the wall, slicing my arm so deep I needed surgery to get the glass out of my muscle. I was only seven. Haddix wanted me to play with him, but I wanted to stay in my room and play with my toys alone, so he told Dad on me, who was already three bottles deep into Fireball. He came up to my room and started screaming at me to "get the f**k downstairs" and grabbed me by my hair, dragging me down the hall. When I started fighting back, he threw me against the table in the hallway and kicked me eight times in the stomach. As I was standing up, I heard the impact of the bottle on the wall next to me, and the pain in my arm after. I had to miss school for the next four days because I could barely move. Haddix apologized for months after, but I never blamed him for any of it. I snapped out of my thoughts when Lily asked me if I was okay; I nodded, and we started heading down the stairs where we were surprised by Elsie and Ezran. We say our hellos and head up towards the packhouse, and I honestly can't help but hope the guy from the diner will be there.
