Chapter 2

While we were pulling into the parking lot, Haddix's friends called out to him. I handed him his lunch and told him to be careful during football practice. He rolled his eyes but said "Ok" and walked away. "Are you going to tell your mom what happened?" Lily asked as we made our way towards homeroom. "You're kidding, right? She's not going to believe me; she wouldn't even believe he broke my nose with that bottle." I said, thinking about that day and shivering at the memory. I love my mom, I do, but she believes dad is the best man alive. To be fair, though, he wasn't always like that. He became a drunk after his brother was killed in a rogue attack when I was seven. They got through the security around the territory perimeter and killed a handful of pack members before they were driven off by the warriors. During the fight, a rogue managed to get into our house and came for me and Haddix. We would've been killed if it hadn't been for Uncle Silas protecting us. He got seriously injured before snapping the rogues neck, and by the time mom and dad were able to get him to the hospital, he passed away. I think dad blames us for his brothers passing, and that's why he's so violent towards us. A month after Silas' death, dad started heavily drinking, and I just thank the goddess he's never gone after mom. Lily and I walk into our homeroom and take our seats in the back where our friends are already sitting, waiting for us. Elsie and Ezran Solace are twins from the neighboring pack who we had met from our freshman year. Their parents are the Gamma Male and Female of Silver Spring Pack that's about an hour and a half away from ours. The twins are both blonde with green eyes, soft heart jaw lines, and slim noses, as well as slim figures. Elsie is in all school music programs and a piano prodigy. She's the only daughter of her parents, so they spoil her, but you'd never be able to tell, though, because she has the most generous heart and kind personality. Ezran is a football star and best friends with Haddix. He's the youngest of three boys and very protective of Elsie. I remember a few months ago, a couple of human guys had her pushed against the wall outside, and she called for Ezran through their mind link. When he got there, one of them had her arms pinned above her head with one hand starting to go up her skirt while the other was standing watch. Ezrans eyes went black, and the next thing anyone knew, both the guys were in the nurses office with broken arms and bruised faces. The parents of the students wanted to press charges, but the school paid them to keep quiet because they didn't want any issues; needless to say, they left Elsie alone after that. "Are you going to the party tonight? Mom and Dad told us there's going to be something important Alpha James and Luna Marie are announcing, Lily." Elsie said with excitement. "Well, duh. My parents are the ones hosting it. They didn't say anything about a big announcement, though. I wonder what it could be?" She asked aloud to herself. The dismissal bell rang, and while I was walking out of the classroom door, a set of arms wrapped around me and started swinging me around like a rag doll. I turn around to see my boyfriend, Soren Nixon, standing there with a big grin on his face. Soren is every girl's dream guy; he's the top of our class, captain of the football team, he's so sweet and has the most amazing personality. We met in February of our freshman year during lunch. He and I happen to be in the same area with a mutual friend. To be honest, I didn't really notice him at first and our friend was the one who gave him my number. We started texting and hanging out more and eventually started getting feelings for each other, but we were too afraid to tell one another. Finally, he told me how he felt, and I told him the same; we started dating a couple of days later and started telling our friends and families around the same time. My parents were a little surprised when I told them about Soren. We went to dinner outside of pack territory so I could introduce them to him and Dad wasn't too thrilled about me dating a human and I still don't think he likes it that much, but I think he puts up with it because Mom took to Soren really well and always talks about how she thinks he's a great guy. Haddix was cool with it, too, because they play football together, and he likes having someone who has the same interests as him hanging around every once in a while. "So babe, I was thinking maybe after school I could come over and we could have a movie night. And maybe fool around a bit?" He said, looking at me with a mischievous smile. "Oh, that would be nice, but my parents are going out of town for the next two weeks, and you know how they feel about people coming over when they're not home." I said quickly. "C'mon Rhea, just this one time, please????" He playfully begged. I just rolled my eyes, and we kept walking.
