The Beta's Daughter

Chapter 3

I hate lying to him, but he's already been to the pack as many times as he was able to be. Lily's dad said he could come to the pack twice a month for 3 days, but only because Lily gave him the old puppy dog eyes, and he couldn't say no. As far as Soren knows, I just live in an exclusive neighborhood with tight security. While Alpha James wants us to mingle and form relationships, he doesn't want non-werewolves in the pack territory, so I appreciate that he's making an exception for me. I don't think he'd ever tell anyone about us, but I can't risk it. So, we go to his house after he comes to the pack the times he's been allowed to, and I get to spend a lot of time with his family; I love being around them and I get along with them well. Soren has a younger sister, Ella, who's in middle school that clings to me when I come over, and it annoys him but I don't mind because I've always wanted a sister of my own.

After school, we went to Easten Diner to get something to eat before the party.

"So, what did you think of Mrs. Wilson's lesson today?" Elsie asked

"I think she needs a touch of reality. what she talks about makes no sense to me, and I can barely pay attention anyway because I'm too busy covering my nose. She smells so bad that maybe she should teach herself about hygiene." Ezran said while dramatically covering his nose

We all giggle and continue eating. A few minutes go by, and Soren is whispering in my ear, trying to convince me to go to his house tonight instead of going home. The door to the diner opens, and the most intoxicating smell fills the air, and I can't help but turn in the direction it's coming from.

"Mate." Artemis says in the back of my mind.

I make eye contact with the most handsome man I've ever seen; He's a few inches taller than Soren, about 6"5-6"6, brown shaggy curly hair with scruffy facial hair, gray-blue eyes, and a muscular build. He smells of cedar and lilac; his right arm has a sleeve tattoo, and the left has a couple of them here and there. I can see his muscles through his shirt, and I feel myself getting hot just looking at him, and he's staring right back at me. I could tell he senses it, too. That's my mate, but I've never seen him before. Could he be from a different pack? Or maybe he's from mine, and I just never noticed him until now?

"RHEA!! Earth to Rhea! Helloooooo?!?" I snap out of the trance I'm in, and I see everyone staring at me with concerned expressions.

"Sorry, I was just thinking about something else. What were we talking about?" I asked, trying to play it off like I just wasn't focusing. They all just looked at me confused before Lily spoke up and said,

"We were talking about making up an excuse for you to be able to go to Soren's tonight instead of the party. It's his birthday tomorrow, and he plans on skipping school and going into the mountains for a trip to his parents' cabin." Soren looked at me with hopeful eyes, but I didn't know how my dad would react, and I kind of didn't want to miss the party just in case that guy was there.

"I don't know, I have a lot of homework to do, and my dad would kill me if I skipped even one day of school, let alone three days." I said half truthfully. My dad would be furious if I missed school, and with how he is, I don't want to be at the end of a drunken rage fit. However, a three day trip alone with Soren did sound more appealing than being crowded in a ballroom with more than half the people there being horny she-wolves looking for their mates and that being the only reason for them going.

"Alright, I'll make an excuse to get out of going and let you know, but I can't promise anything." I say, smiling at Soren and giving him a kiss.

Lily squeals, and we continue our conversations. I turned around one more time to get another look at the guy and saw that he was watching me with lust in his eyes. I feel my face getting hot, so I turn around fast and keep my head forward the rest of the time we're there.
