Chapter 3

And that's how I filed you away in my mind. If I didn't have a system in place, I would inevitably forget about it. It's something I do frequently. My mom thinks I have a learning handicap that affects my long-term memory. I gave her a friendly smile and said, "Let's go." to put her at ease. For supper, I have something special in store for you. I have faith that you will find it to be satisfying. Or at least I hope you do." My brow furrows as I once again fret over what she may be thinking of me. Why am I so affected by this girl? Problematically, if I don't straighten up, she'll stop talking to me altogether. Never mind becoming my spouse. When she arrives at the truck, I open the passenger door and show her to the seat. As I watch her frail form step into the truck, I feel my jeans tightening and realize that I need to pay attention or they will soon be too small to allow me to drive home. I take a deep breath and attempt to think of something that will help the swelling go down, and soon enough it does. Whenever I need a distraction, picturing my grandmother's wrinkled old face generally does the trick. Once I've resolved the immediate issue, I return to the driver's seat and start the automobile. When I hear it start to purr, I give her a grin and place my hand on the shifter. I give it a quick prod, and it answers without hesitation, so I head off down the long driveway and into the woods, then back out to the road and around the bend. When I glance across at her, a smirk crosses my face, and I quickly flip on the radio so she won't feel too awkward. On the way back, we both like singing along to familiar tunes, and when we don't, I focus on the road while she looks out the window at the seemingly unending row of houses. I took the long way home, and when we finally get there, she sees the castle in the clearing and her eyes grow to the size of saucers. She looks at me as though she just discovered something amazing and wonders, "Is this really yours?"” I gave her a kind nod and said, "Yes." Indeed, it is that and much more. They are located in every state thanks to me. My father, who reigned before I did, ordered their construction because he admired Scotland's castles. I quickly try to cover up what I said, "He figured if he was going to be king, he might as well reign from the walls like one in his castles." You do realize that I am joking, right?” She looks at me with wide eyes and a hushed, unsure "I guess." As I continued to stare, she looked into my eyes and exclaimed, "I can't wait to see the interior. I've never seen anything so incredible. As soon as we come to a stop, I open the door and exit the vehicle, sprinting to her door and opens it. Her still-present grin is so alluring that I immediately cup her chin with my palm and plant a passionate kiss on her lips. While dragging her out of the truck, I take her up and carry her around in my arms. As her giggles bounce off of mine, I realize that a kiss is too much, too soon, and I set her down before she has a chance to scream or something. After all, I don't need a little girl running around outside the castle screaming. I can't have people assuming I plan to make her into my next meal, since that would be terrible. In particular, given that I had just finished explaining to the Wind Walker pack that they must refrain from eating people. I look into her eyes, shake my head, and try to swiftly come up with a plan to fix what I've done. “Hm. I had to ask. I mutter something under my breath, hoping she won't hear. Then, when she turns around, doubt creeps into my mind as I wonder if she can. I apologize. At the time, it was the sensible choice. I have been out of the loop for a while, so please bear with me. I say with a scowl on my face. When I saw her start to light up, I let myself unwind. Then she said, "You can't help it that I am so cute. After all, she isn't the kind of kid you get to amuse very often, and she thinks everything you do is cool. She obviously said it without giving it much thought, because immediately afterward she began to blush and turned her back on me so I couldn't see. She turns around as I put a kind touch on her shoulder and say, "You are right. You have a certain allure, but I believe there is so much more to you than meets the eye, which is why I am so interested in getting to know you. "Alright, I'll go wherever you want me to. Before we go down to lunch, I'd like to take a tour of the castle and grounds. Please.” Her eyes are bright, and I need to know everything about her before she discovers the truth about who and what I am. But as soon as we enter inside, we're thrust into a conflict between two Betas, and she immediately recognizes us for what we are. She is so frightened that she bolts from the castle, makes her way down the driveway, and disappears into the woods, where she remains for an hour and a half until I locate her. She fights me the whole way when I pick her up, but I eventually get her to my room at the end of the hall and lock the door behind me. The challenge lies ahead. Now that she knows the truth about us, I need to figure out what to do with her. Can I put my faith in her? Or maybe she'll tell the other humans to start looking for us. I had hoped to slowly let her into my confidence before confiding in her and sharing our secrets, but this may be too much too soon. It's possible that Omega Tom has given me the one thing I've ever truly wanted, and I'm so angry that I can't help but yell at him from my chair. If he hadn't started the fight, I'd be sitting at the table with her right now, watching her eyes roll back in her head with joy as I watch her eat. In an instant, I am at Omega Tom's throat, slamming my hand down so hard that everyone around me recoils in shock I could murder him in an instant if I wanted to, but I've decided not to. Instead, I say to the onlookers, "I am sparing his life this time, but if I ever see another one of you fighting over something so trivial as this, I will snap everyone's necks that are involved." I won't stand for any fighting within these walls, and you all know it. After setting Omega Tom on the floor, I carefully turn my head to stare at everyone in the room, making it clear that I am the one in charge. Because if I don't, things may turn around on me faster than a young girl who is afraid of the unknown, and I'd be in a whole lot of trouble. I close my eyes for a moment as my thoughts turn ominous as I recall Diva once more. When I re-open them, the room is empty but for Omega Tom, who is still glaring guiltily at me from where he has been standing. Raising his head, he adds humbly, "Alpha King Chaos, I would have never wanted that I caused you harm. I had no idea you had a visitor or that my actions would have such repercussions. As he scans the area, he opens his palms wide. Not wanting to appear aggressive, I let go of my guard and put my arm around his shoulder, saying, "Next time, don't even get into it all; just stay out of trouble so you avoid these situations." After a moment of silence, he says, "Thank you for sparing my life." in a low voice before I tell him to leave my presence. "Now, for the girl who's been safely hidden away for the time being. Where do I go from here? As Omega Crystal enters the room with a broom, I mutter something under my breath and tilt my head. She's obviously come to clean up the mess created by the other two fighting before, but maybe she can assist me as well. Can we agree that she is a teenage girl? Maybe, just maybe, she might help me understand how to appeal to and not frighten Diva by revealing the inner workings of a teenage girl's mind.
