I was aware of two things at the same time. Inside my head, Katyk was furious and shoving against whatever magic had been used to restrain me. Outside of me, Daria and Eniyii were creating a circle in chalk on the floor around me while Xen stood watch at the door.
Eniyii drew symbols inside and outside the circle, chanting musically as she went. Then came candles and more chanting. Eniyii’s soft robes moved with her as she danced around the circle with an instrument that made a rattling noise.
Katyk laughed and told me that nothing could get her out of my head now and soon the village would be overrun with Kabeshi troops. I tried to open my mouth to warn Daria, but nothing came out.
