When I opened my eyes again, I found myself locked inside a car.
When Lucas saw I was awake, he suddenly reached out and tore my clothes open.
Only then did I realize what he was going to do. I fought like hell to get away, but he pinned me down hard. "Let go of me! I will hate you for the rest of my life if you do this!"
But he acted as if he hadn't heard me. No matter how I kicked, screamed, and cried, even bit down on his shoulder, he never stopped.
In the end, I had no strength left. I could only beg him through my tears. "Lucas... please don't do it in the car... This is my race car..."
But he did not stop because of my plea.
I bit my lip so hard that the metallic taste of blood spread across my tongue.
Vivian had already ruined my leg, and now Lucas was determined to ruin me entirely as a person.
Over the next few days, he acted like a madman. He dragged me to the racetrack and did the same thing to me in every single one of my race cars.
I was as numb as a soulless doll. I had even cried all my tears dry.
Once he had finished in the last car, he pulled me into his arms and asked, "Do you still want to leave me, Emma?"
I shook my head mechanically. I didn't want to leave anymore. I wanted to die.
Only then did he take me back home.
The moment we walked through the door, Vivian walked toward us, waving the things she held in her hand. "Lucas, which one looks better to wear for the wedding?"
My pupils shrank sharply. That was my national championship medal and the jade pendant my mother left me.
"Lucas Harrington!" I shrieked, my voice so hoarse it was just a ragged rasp. "That's my stuff!"
But he looked like his plan had worked perfectly. "I know it's yours."
He lifted his eyes and sneered. "If you still think about leaving, I can't guarantee where I will end up throwing these things."
I clenched my jaw until my teeth ached. A searing, all-consuming hatred surged behind my eyes.
In the end, he still fastened that jade pendant around Vivian's neck, stroked her hair, and said, "If you still want to run away, this jade pendant will belong to Vivian forever."
The day before the wedding, Lucas did not touch me, for once.
He lay on the bed, holding me from behind, his chin resting on my shoulder, rambling in a gentle tone. "Don't blame me, okay, Emma? I just love you so much."
"Once my wedding with Vivian is over and things settle down with the Gray family, I will take you to get our real marriage license, okay?"
I squeezed my eyes shut and gave no reply.
On the morning of the wedding, Vivian walked in wearing a pure white wedding dress and deliberately held the jade pendant on her neck close to my face. "How pitiful, Emma." She smiled triumphantly. "I had already warned you to get out early. This jade pendant is so tacky, but Lucas insisted on giving it to me as part of my dowry."
She had no idea that I had already lost all will to live.
Let alone a single jade pendant, even if Lucas brought my mother's urn to threaten me right now, I would not even bat an eye.
So the moment he and Vivian walked out the door arm in arm, I turned to the side and reached for my wrist with my still functional right hand.
I felt nothing when my teeth bit down, only warm blood slowly seeping out.
Just as the blood spread into a small stain, there was a loud crash, and the floor-to-ceiling window of the bedroom was smashed through.
A fake corpse was thrown in, followed by a handsome face.
Ethan stood among the shards of glass and reached his hand out to me. "Let's go. I'm here to pick you up."
