Yi Yi didn't need to look at herself to know that what Charlie said was true. She had no money or figure worth swindling.
"Fine, what benefits do I get from being your sister?" She wasn't going to be a free substitute. Since he was so keen on being her brother, she'd let him have his way for now!
"Being my sister has many benefits. You don't have to work at all," Charlie believed he could support this sister of his.
"What if I need money?" Yi Yi asked. After all, her purpose in coming to America wasn't to fulfill her dreams of earning money, but to be his sister.
"Of course, I'll provide for you." Since he didn't want her to work, it was only fair for him to give her money to spend.
Unbelievable, there was actually a man like this in America, and Yi Yi happened to run into him. She didn't know if it was a blessing or a curse. She'd never met anyone who wanted to be a sister so badly. Did he have a sister complex? If that was the case, agreeing to be his sister might be dangerous. What was the difference between that and walking into a tiger's den? Why would she want to be his sister? Maybe he should have asked his mother to give him a sister. Was a stranger better than a relative? Why did she always encounter strange things? First, she met Eddie, who came from America to China looking for a wife, and now she met Charlie, who was looking for a sister. Was she really that attractive? What strange things would happen in the future? Hopefully, no one would come looking for her to be their mother. She absolutely wouldn't agree to that. She'd encountered so many strange things, who knew, one day she might do something strange like them.
"Why should I be your sister?" Yi Yi asked.
"Because you're the only person besides my parents whom I want to care for..." Charlie then proceeded to tell Yi Yi about his childhood and present circumstances. Maybe he had seen a reflection of his childhood in her when he first saw her.
Because of this reason, Yi Yi felt a bit sympathetic towards Charlie. Well, she could agree to be his sister for now. After all, it wouldn't cost her anything. Although he seemed annoying, he also had a kind heart. Who said that Charlie, a foreigner whom she found appealing, and who had such an unhappy childhood, wasn't lacking love? When she returned to China, who would remember her? So, she decided to do a good deed.
"Fine, I'll be your sister. Now, can you leave?" After all that talking, Yi Yi hadn't forgotten she still had "work" to do.
"Why should I leave? I don't even know your background yet." Since he'd agreed to be her brother, shouldn't he get to know her, like her past or if she needed any help?
"I was born in a city in China. My father is a businessman, and my mother is a clerk..." Yi Yi briefly explained her background, including how she came here and got separated from Eddie. However, she didn't mention that she had come to America to work and earn money. That was her secret, something she couldn't casually tell others.
After hearing Yi Yi's story, Charlie burst into laughter. He hadn't expected her to marry Eddie and Jack just to leave the country. It was hilarious. How could he only now realize that Chinese people did such ridiculous things just to leave the country? What was so good about going abroad?
"Is it that funny?" Yi Yi was angry. He didn't have to laugh at her like that. It was undignified, and she felt embarrassed.
Charlie decided to stop laughing at her. "Why do you want to go abroad so badly?"
Humph, she didn't want to tell him. If she did, he'd definitely laugh his head off. She didn't want to become a notorious criminal for the rest of her life.
"Why should I tell you?" Yi Yi retorted.
"If you don't want to say, then forget it. I'll find out someday," Charlie shrugged.
"Hmph!" Let him figure it out slowly. She wasn't going to tell him. He laughed at her too much.
"Alright, go pack your bags. You're coming with me."
"Where to?"
