Episode 04-The day after

1627 Words
Narrator Even though Serena had spent the entire morning repairing the damage caused by the beating Mercury had received from her father, Mercury smiled when she opened her eyes. Finally, it wasn't forced. As Mercury rose from her bed, she braced herself for whatever the world had in store for her. If her abusive father broke another empty vodka bottle over her head or if others made snide remarks when she passed them, it didn't matter. Not even a sexually immoral teacher could keep the smile from her face. She'll deal with whatever comes her way. That's because she wasn't alone anymore! The courage and strength she possessed did not appear out of thin air or overnight. The only difference between the Mercury who went to bed with scars from a terrible beating last night and the Mercury who looked forward to a new day was that she wasn't doing it by herself. Achieving her goals was made easier with Serena by her side. She may not be able to stand up to her father or the bullies, but her revenge will be best served cold one day. She had endured her beatings without complaint up until that point. Alpha Magnus was due for breakfast, so her only concern was getting it started and finished before he arrived. As a result of her last tardiness in serving a meal, she was unable to sit or lie for two days. She didn't want to be beaten again so soon after yesterday. Or entirely. It would be harder to shower with a cup from a barrel, knowing how the Blood Moon pack operates. Then, she got out of bed and changed out of her thin, torn nightgown within a few minutes. In spite of her battered appearance, she was beaming a bright smile. Mercury walked out of her room and into the kitchen to begin preparing the morning's meals. However, before she could begin, she had to fill her barrels with water for the pack members who lived in the packhouse. She wiped her forehead with the back of her hand and continued. Eggs, bacon, and toast were prepared. After that, she then filled the kettle with water for tea, coffee, or plain old chocolate milk for the kids, depending on their preferences. What she had planned to make for breakfast was mostly done. All she had to do was set the table. Mercury carried the wares and utensils to the massive dining room one at a time, so she wouldn't drop or break anything. There was a large table in the middle of the room with fresh flowers from the garden and two brass candlesticks on either side of the vase. It could accommodate at least twelve people. Plates, forks, spoons, and knives were neatly arranged around each seat. She had no idea how to set a dining table until two years ago. Nevertheless, after the death of her mother, Alpha Magnus insisted that she took care of the household chores on her own. To her, he had boasted, "You'll be more useful, rather than living a comfortable life. If you want to remain in this pack, you must do your part." So busy with her preparations, she didn't hear the house door opened and closed. Mercury hummed a song that her mother used to sing to her as a baby. Along with it, she bopped her head, blocking out everything else around her.  Unexpectedly, she came to a stop. She took a big breath and exhaled slowly. Once. Twice. And a third time, just for enjoyment. A peculiar emotion overtook her as she inhaled the sweetest aroma. In response to the scent, Serena woke up howling and scratching while her brain was in a frenzy. It was at that point that she became aware of the situation. Serena howled, shouting the one word she yearned for. “MATE!!”   Mercury POV “Mate?” I repeated the word a few times, letting it sink in on my tongue before releasing it. “Here? Now?” How would it feel to finally meet my fated mate? I've been wondering about it for years. And now, it was finally time. Has the Moon Goddess decided to look down on me now? Considering everything I've been through, has she decided to show me some mercy? I could hardly breathe because the excitement was so overwhelming. How can I find our mate, Serena? I asked in a low voice. In search of his scent, I c****d my nose to the air. A fresh scent of summer breeze combined with earthy oak. Mmmm! Even better than bacon! I'm not sure exactly where he is, but he's in the vicinity. She purred loudly. The search is on for our mate! We will find him, Serena, we will. I reassured her. I wasn't sure if I was reassuring her or myself, but I tried to do both. I believe that I needed to find him more than she did, but both of us needed him. This life of abuse and loneliness was killing me, and I needed my mate to help me escape it. Fill me with love, joy, and pleasure. I followed my nose from the dining room to the living room, searching for the one who stirs my soul. I searched the second level without success. The third floor. On this level, the scent became more intense and lingering. Because Alpha Magnus' office and chambers were located on this floor, I was prohibited from entering. The very chamber he soils my mother’s memory with bedding his many concubines. The fact that I would have been punished for entering the forbidden level was irrelevant to me today. The room where my Alpha slept didn't need to be visited. Why would my mate be in there, exactly? Rather, I tiptoed towards his office, which was only a few feet away across a small hallway. The scent grew in strength as I got closer. Then bam, I hit a brick wall. At least, what I envisioned to be a wall. This level of muscularity is not acceptable for a man. In contrast, the man in front of me looked like Mount Everest, not a man. Two strong arms grabbed hold of my shoulders and kept me from falling to the ground, which surprised me. A perfect face appeared in front of me, and I shook my head, regaining my composure. Despite his charms, I've never seen him before in this pack. Thereby ruling him out as a pack member. So maybe that is the reason for his presence in my father’s office. It's for business purposes. “MATE!” I announced, remembering his face. His daring hazel eyes peered right into my shattered soul. Lips capable of generating a maelstrom of pleasure with only one word. My fingers yearn to touch his leather black hair, and his dress shirt bulges with muscular muscles. I could tell he was uncomfortable in his clothes by the way he was dressed. The way he tugs on his tie, in particular. A shudder traveled up and down my spine before making its way to my p***y. When our gazes met, he exuded a searing emotion, and I understood right away. He's my mate. But not a pleased one. My eyes widened, perplexed, and I took a step back. His hands slid to the side of his body. I ran my tongue across my lips, which had become parched. Words became trapped in my throat, preventing them from being said. Was he going to swoop in and claim me? Or would he reject me? With purpose in his eyes, he took a step toward me. The way his body tightened at the understanding that he had found his mate was not subtle. It was almost as if he despised the interaction. Only one thing could be the case. It was something I didn't want to admit. It would be even more surreal if I admitted it. To be honest, such sorrow was too much for my heart to bear. I couldn't take my eyes away from him though. A smile pulled at my lips as I took him all in. I was practically trembling with delight. My delight was short-lived, though, as his face turned cold and his eyes glowed with fury and hatred. My body shivered, but I couldn't take my eyes off him. I could feel his hatred radiating from him, and I knew something wasn't right. “Who is your mate?” He snarled; his rich voice tinged with loathing. His voice would have had me soaking through my pants right now under different circumstances. "Don’t you ever call me that!" All the while, I'm shaking my head and asking him not to do what I believe he's about to do. Please don't let him reject me, Moon Goddess. “Please don't do this. Please don't do this. You're my mate. We're meant to be together. Please give this some thought.” I pleaded; tears streamed down my cheeks like a river. SLAP The sting of the slap was lost in the searing pain in my heart, which was threatening my need to keep standing. "Shut up, you wretched thing!" He grunted, not a trace of regret in his tone, eyeing me with disgust from head to toe. My mate was going to reject me, and he didn't give a damn about the consequences. "What is your name?" He looked me over, clearly appalled by my appearance. What's more, why wouldn't he be? In his perspective, I'm no better than the filth on his shoes. I'm just an omega to him. "No, please!" With a shake of my head, I pleaded.
