Misty took a deep breath as she looked over the group of supernatural beings and shivered. It was weird how comfortable she felt, especially after having lived so much of her life all alone.
"Am I one of you? A Shifter I mean…" Misty nearly whispered the question, holding her gaze and clenching her teeth as she waited for the answer.
Jake was the one that stepped forward to address the young woman, a look of understanding and calm on his face.
"You are not human, but you are not exactly a Shifter either… yet… maybe?" Jake started off strong but quickly trailed off as his face turned to one of confusion. He seemed to be trying to explain the situation all out of order.
"Okay, tell me from the beginning then! I've got all night to learn whatever the hell is going on!" Misty huffed, turning around to look for somewhere to sit only for Micheal to produce a blanket and lay it out for her. "Suck up~"
Micheal smiled at her, sitting down on the blanket and offering his lap to Misty. She accepted, even as Jake growled at the sight but she just rolled her eyes and patted the blanket beside her for him to sit. He took a moment, eyeing Misty in surprise before nodding and following suit.
The rest of the Shifters all sat on the ground, eyes still glued to Misty as if she was a shining beacon of light.
"Did you wish to know of our history? Or your history? I do not know much about your circumstances, except that both of your parents are human, but you have Shifter ancestors-" Jake went to continue but Misty reached out to grab his arm and stop him.
"What?! Who?" She was honestly shocked at this information. Jake gave her a sympathetic nod, patting her hand as she left it on his arm.
"I believe your grandparents and their grandparents. It was a surprise that your mother would be born a human under such circumstances. However, it is believed that the second generation would bring forth the Sacred Omega." Jake spoke softly, rubbing Misty's hand in order to keep her calm.
"Why am I Sacred? Why are Omegas important at all? What do I do???" Misty wasn't exactly panicking, but she definitely wanted some answers.
"The Omega has power over all Shifters, affecting us on a deep… primal level. She is also able to mate with any Alpha-" Duncan had wandered over and answered Misty's question before anyone else could, but was soon interrupted by Jake.
"No, she is promised to the Lycan King, and the royals would never allow another to claim the Sacred Omega as their own!" Jake growled at Duncan, moving to rise, probably even attack when Misty scoffed and caught everyone's attention.
"I don't belong to anyone and no one is claiming me!!! I don't care about all the stuff anyway, I want to know what *I* can do!"
Misty was getting more and more grumpy by the second as Micheal rubbed her back in soothing arches. She managed to relax a bit, noticing many of the Shifters moving closer as attempting to calm her down. She found it nice, which was strange in itself since she barely knew anyone there.
One of the young women cleared her throat, looking around before blushing softly and speaking up.
"Sacre- Misty. You have the ability to bring all Shifters together, heal and bond with us on a level I cannot even begin to describe." The girl, probably a year or two younger than Misty, had dirty blonde hair and a cute face. She bit her lip before blushing a deeper shade of red and whispering her next sentence. "I feel like I've known you my whole life as if you were my sister… I feel compelled to protect you and make sure you're always happy…"
The poor girl was a blushing mess by the time she finished, but every single Shifter was nodding along to what she had said. Misty was honestly shocked, having no idea what she had done to deserve such devotion.
That was the thing, apparently, she didn't need to do anything but just exist.
"This is really hard for me to accept, and I apologize if it is an inappropriate request but can I see someone actually… Shift?" Misty asked, already noticing all of the Shifters going rigid. But before they could interject, Misty held up her hand to continue, "I've already heard from Jake that it's apparently disrespectful to me, but I don't actually care… if any of you want to show me, or it's too uncomfortable I understand."
Misty looked around the group, but her eyes immediately fell on Duncan’s grinning face. Something was about to happen, and she wasn’t entirely sure it was a good thing.
“Whatever my princess wishes are my command~” Duncan stood up from where he had taken a seat on the loose stone beach, reaching his arms up behind his head to pull off his shirt in one smooth motion. Misty felt her eyes go wide, staring at that beautiful expanse of muscle as her mouth became comically dry.
But before she could say a word, the beautiful specimen of a man was already moving to pull off the ridiculous basketball shorts he had been wearing that somehow looked sexy as hell on him!
Misty turned to look away, biting her lip to keep herself grounded and soft rumbles flowed through the group of Shifters in response. She turned back towards them, noticing a few of the women trying to settle closer, while the men seemed to preen themselves in an attempt to catch her gaze. It was confusing, to say the least, but the strangest part was that it felt just as natural to her as breathing now.
*Crack*
The sound caught Misty’s attention as her eyes snapped to Duncan’s form, now kneeling on all fours and completely naked. But she wasn’t embarrassed at the sight this time, instead, she was filled with a feeling of wonder and nausea. She could see Duncan’s bones and muscles shifting, breaking and reforming right before her eyes.
“What the f**k…” Misty whispered mostly to herself, her mouth agape as fur formed over Duncan’s body in waves and within mere moments his human form had been completely replaced with that of an enormous red wolf.
She should have been terrified, tried to get up and run away, but instead Misty lifted her hand out towards the Shifter. Duncan seemed to understand as he stood up from the ground, slowly walking over to Misty and poignantly ignoring the growls coming from Jake’s throat. He bowed his head and bumped into Misty’s hand, that same rumble from the others now being emitted from Duncan’s throat as he settled his head down on Misty’s lap.
“Guess you guys weren’t lying, but then that also means…” Misty was beyond shocked, her mind reeling as she replayed every single conversation she could remember from the past two days. Someone was coming for her, she had been promised to this person against her will and there were still so many more questions that she needed answers for.
But at that moment there was only one thing she wanted to do.
Misty stood up and took off towards the lake, taking her clothes off quickly before rushing into the freezing cold water and diving beneath the surface. She had often gone swimming by herself up in the ponds and streams higher up in the mountains, so feeling the cold water against her body shocked her senses back into place. When Misty surfaced, all of the Shifters were at the water's edge, half or fully nude in an attempt to join her when they stopped and stared. Misty laughed, moving to stride out of the lake and not caring that she was mostly naked, except for her panties and bra she had decided to keep on at the last minute.
“That felt good! Now I can move forward with all of this new information!” She grinned, feeling more like herself and less like she was drowning, hilariously enough. Misty reached the group of Shifters, rolling her eyes when Jake wrapped her up in his jacket and huffed when he stood close in an effort to warm her up.
“Come on everyone, let's enjoy the rest of the bonfire and pretend like I’m still normal, at least for the rest of tonight!”
