I want to throw the apology back in his face. Want to tell him it's three years too late and worth exactly nothing.
But I'm too tired. Too wrung out from crying over Asher and processing that I'm trapped here for months.
"Your apology is noted." I keep my voice carefully neutral. "Now if you don't mind, I'd like to rest."
He doesn't move. "Margot said you're trapped here because of the blood bond. Because of my mistakes. Because of her." He gestures toward Serena's bed, where she's sleeping peacefully, oblivious to the drama around her. "Let me make it right. Let me—"
He stops suddenly, his expression tightening.
My pulse begins to climb.
"About that son of yours—"
The door slams open with enough force to make all of us jump.
