It's exactly two weeks since the day Dominic dropped the divorce bomb and my world has crumbled before me.
It has been the most horrible days of my life.
I haven't been able to do anything. Haven't been able to function well. Everything reminds me of Dominic.
He hasn't returned home in two weeks. I called, texted, and begged him. He is still insistent on the divorce.
He was probably with her right now. Having the best time of his life, while I wallowed in misery and self pity. Wondering where I went wrong, wondering what I could have done better. Wondering what she did that I couldn't do.
My self esteem and confidence were at an all time low. I could not imagine having a life without Dominic. I don't even know how I would cope after the divorce.
What will become of me?
Where will I go?
How will I raise a baby without a father?
My eyes started tearing up and I wiped the tears.
I took a deep breath and got out of bed. It's the day we are meeting the lawyers to discuss the divorce.
I had spent the last few weeks thinking about how this meeting would go, and what I would say. But nothing prepared me for how it really was.
It was painful and depressing.
When I arrived at the meeting venue, Dominic was already there, but something else caught my attention.
Someone else.
A beautiful tall woman was draped all over Dominic, and she looked exactly like...
I gasped and put my hands on my mouth.
"Oh my gosh," I whispered.
It was her. The same woman I had seen in Dominic's phone. It was her.
He mentions her name multiple times when we made love, says her name in his sleep. It's always her. How didn't I realize?
Yasmine.
His ex girlfriend. The same one he claimed he had no contact with, the same one he claimed to no longer love.
She was right in front of me, and she was his new woman. When did she get back in town? How long has this affair been going on?
I couldn't believe it.
My head throbbed and I started to feel dizzy. I staggered backward and almost fell, but I held onto the chair beside me.
Dominic was too busy to notice, and the woman was oblivious.
My heart shattered.
It's like a double betrayal.
He was not only leaving me for someone else, he was leaving me for his ex. His first love. The same one who broke his heart, the one he claimed he would never forgive.
I could feel the anger boiling within me, and I had the urge to go and slap the hell out of her.
The b***h.
I clenched my fists and controlled my emotions, refusing to allow them to overcome me.
Dominic has hurt me, and I have the right to be upset. He has broken my heart, but I won't allow the woman he left me for to break me any further.
She is beautiful and I couldn't blame him for leaving me. She looked like a model. Her body was perfect. I felt small compared to her.
No wonder he left me for her.
I couldn't even bring myself to look at her face, because it would bring more pain than the one I was already feeling.
I didn't want her to see me cry, or have the satisfaction of knowing she took Dominic from me. I wanted to keep the little dignity and pride that I had left.
It's bad enough I am divorcing my husband, but the fact that it's because of his ex is a huge slap in the face. I have lost my husband to his first love.
His true love.
What can I even compete with her?
The door opened and the lawyer walked in. "Mr. and Mrs. King" he said, and shook our hands.
We took a seat and the meeting began. "Mr. King, I'm sorry but only the two parties involved are allowed to be in the room during the proceedings," the lawyer said, looking at Yasmine who was already frowning.
Dominic whispered something into her ear and she nodded and stood up. She glanced at me, and then Dominic and gave him a kiss on his lips.
The sight made my blood boil, and my heart ached.
It hurt. So much.
Seeing her with him. Seeing him with her.
I had been fighting the urge to cry from the moment I saw her, but it was becoming unbearable.
When Yasmine finally left the room, the lawyer looked at us. "Shall we begin?" he asked.
"Yes," Dominic said, and I nodded.
"Mrs. King, do you understand the divorce process?"
"Yes," I answered.
"Very well, if you agree, we will proceed. Are there any other people involved in this marriage, including children?"
"Not that I know of." Dominic said and looked at me.
"Mrs. King?"
"There are no children involved." My voice sounded stronger than I had imagined as I secretly held my belly, wondering the faith of the life that was growing inside of me.
"Good. So, the only party involved in the divorce is you and your wife. Mr. King, have you both discussed the assets and finances prior to today?"
"No," Dominic said, without sparing me a glance.
"Is Mrs. King aware about the prenuptial agreement?"
He turned to face me, while I looked at them in confusion. Dominic hadn't mentioned a word about any agreement.
"I am not sure."
"Prenuptial agreement? What is he talking about, Dominic?"
"Yes, Luna. Did the Alpha inform you about the agreement before or during your marriage?"
"I didn't think it was necessary." Dominic interjected.
"No, he didn't." I responded.
"Okay. So, you married Mr. King knowing the possibility of getting divorced, which meant the risk of losing half of his assets and properties."
"Excuse me, what are you saying?" I asked.
"What I am trying to explain to you is that, when Mr. King’s made the prenuptial agreement, they agreed that he would be the sole owner of their entire assets, your husband has a trust fund of ten billion dollars, and any money you made while married belongs to him as well. If this divorce happens, you would have nothing. Do you understand?"
I could not believe what I was hearing. "What do you mean, nothing?"
"As per the prenuptial agreement, the wife cannot own any of the King's properties, and any money you made during the marriage belongs to him, Mrs. King."
"That's bullshit," I said, angrily.
"It is the law. You have to follow it."
"So, let me get this straight. Even though I have worked for the company and contributed greatly to its growth, all the profits belong to my husband, is that right?"
"Yes, ma'am."
I looked at Dominic and scoffed. "Are you kidding me, Dominic? Divorcing me isn't enough?"
"I thought we wouldn't have to talk about it."
"You thought we wouldn't have to talk about a prenuptial agreement that affects me? You should have talked about it, Dominic. We could have avoided all this."
"That's not why we are here, Hailey."
The lawyer sighed and placed a file on the table.
My chest heaved, and my eyes welled up with tears. I didn't want to cry. Not here.
"Hailey."
I ignored him and turned to the lawyer.
"If the divorce happens, can I at least keep my house?"
"I'm afraid not, Mrs. King."
"But...but, that's the only thing I have, and I have lived there for years. You have to give me that. Please."
"No, Hailey. The house and properties belong to me. They were never in the agreement."
"This is so unfair, Dominic. I did nothing wrong."
"It's the law, Hailey."
"Can't we rewrite it, and add something that's beneficial to me? Surely, you can't do this."
"Unfortunately, we can't. There is a clause that states the prenuptial agreement must not be changed unless the spouse agrees, and I am not agreeing." He said coldly.
I wiped the tear that had fallen on my cheeks. Not only am I being divorced, but also stripped of my identity and everything that I have worked hard for.
"With your permission, I'd like to finalize the divorce. Here is the contract. Please read through it and sign. Once both of you have signed, the divorce will be official."
The lawyer handed us each a copy of the contract, and I started reading it.
Dominic didn't waste any time signing his. He was already done when I was halfway through mine.
I read the last paragraph and closed my eyes. My life was ending, and I was being pushed to the sidelines.
"Please sign," the lawyer insisted, and Dominic sighed.
"Sign, Hailey."
"You should have told me," I sobbed. "You will throw it all away because of her?"
"This is the end, Hailey. We are no longer married. Sign the contract." He said and his eyes held no single ounce of remorse.
"I loved you."
"No, Hailey. This isn't love. Please, don't make this harder for yourself. If you don't sign the papers, you would have to pay. Do you really want that? Or would you just let it all go? Let me go."
I stared into his eyes. With shaky hands, I picked up the pen and signed my name on the contract.
