CHAPTER FOUR THE CONFRONTATION

987 Words
I slammed the door shut the moment Jake left. My heart raced, anger bubbling up inside me as I turned to face Samantha. "You heartless snake!" I shouted, my voice shaking with betrayal. "Why are you doing this to me? You were my best friend! My chief bridesmaid!"Samantha smirked, crossing her arms. "Yen yen yen," she said mockingly and mimicked me, rolling her eyes. "Best friend, chief bridesmaid... save the drama, you cheat. I couldn't believe this was coming from Samantha. "You called me a cheat? Are you not?" She shot back. "Maybe next time you should learn to keep your legs closed. My hands clenched into fists. "I know this was your plan, Samantha. You drugged me, took me to that hotel. She laughed. "Oh, really? Got any proof? Because last I checked, you’ve got nothing but your little sob story." "You set me up!" I snapped. "I’m not the one who should be ashamed here. "Samantha took a step closer, lowering her voice. "You should be grateful I didn’t release your nudes. Imagine the mess that would cause. Now if you’ll excuse me..." She turned, giving me one last smug smile before strutting out the door. I was left standing there, my world crashing around me. How could I have been so blind? Before I could even catch my breath,a notification popped up on my phone. The breakup news had already spread. Headlines blared across my screen: Emily Carter dumped days before the wedding! It was like someone had pressed fast forward on my worst nightmare. I knew what I had to do. Jake. I had to make him see the truth. I went to Jake's house that evening, scared and desperate. I honestly don't know what to expect but I hope he will give me a listening ear. We've come too far to end things now. The door was opened when I got there. I felt anxious as I mustered the courage to push it open and enter. The living room was littered with clothes, female undies, shoes, and more. In the middle of the room, I saw a familiar bag. “Samantha,” I whispered as I ran to the bedroom. What was she doing here? Why were her things all over the floors I was about to open the bedroom door when I heard a lady moaning. It couldn’t be! I covered my mouth to avoid screaming. I took a few moments to process my thoughts before dashing inside. The scene before me was unbelievable. Samantha and Jake were lost in a moment of intimacy. I wanted to shout, but words wouldn’t come. It took them a few moments to notice my presence. They pulled apart as soon as they saw me. We were all shocked; the scene was unexpected. Different thoughts ran through my mind. There was a moment of silence before I broke it. “Is this the best you could do to me?” I said, facing Jake as tears streamed down my cheeks. “Why did you allow this witch to come between us?” Samantha grinned, leaning closer to him. “Oh, didn’t you hear? Jake has moved on. He’s with me now.” Jake looked away, avoiding eye contact with me. I felt my heart shatter completely. I was angry Jake could cheat on me with my best friend, but right now I needed him to hear me out. Without giving it much thought, I went on my knees and pleaded. Jake, please you have to believe me. Tears streamed down my cheeks as I begged him. This wasn't me! I was drugged. Samantha is the person responsible for everything. She is not who you believe her to be. She is deceitful, Jake. Please, I promise I'm being honest. Jake shifted uncomfortably, still not looking at me. Samantha, standing next to him, laughed softly. "Wow, Emily. Still lying, even now? You really have no shame," she said with fake sympathy. "It’s sad, really." I ignored her and focused on Jake. "Please, Jake. You know me. You know I’d never do this. She set me up. She drugged me and took me to that hotel. You have to believe me!" Jake finally looked at me, but his eyes were cold. "I don’t know what to believe anymore, Emily. All I know is what I saw." Samantha stepped forward, her voice dripping with fake concern. "Jake, you don’t have to listen to this. She’s just trying to manipulate you again, like she always does." I glared at her. "You’re the one manipulating him! You did all of this. I have thought of you as my best friend not knowing you are a bloody betrayal. "Samantha rolled her eyes. "Sure, Emily. Keep telling yourself that. "Jake sighed, rubbing his face. "Enough, both of you. "I reached for his hand, desperate. "Jake, please—"He pulled away and looked me straight in the eye. I have made my decision Emily. I think you should make yours. If you really loved me, you would have considered what your actions could lead to. “I stood up, my legs weak and my heart racing. ‘Jake, please don’t let her break us apart.’ We’ve been through so much together. Don’t let this be the end. So much for the woman I loved and trusted to betray me. He said laughing sarcastically. "I just need space, Emily. I need to figure things out."I nodded, though every part of me screamed to stay and fight. But what was the point? He was already slipping away. I could see it in his eyes. The man I loved was gone, lost in a sea of doubt and lies. I think You've outstayed your welcome Emily, please make use of the door behind you. Samantha said. I was too weak to talk back or fight her, I stared at Jake's for a moment before taking my leave.
