The Picnic

KIND’S POV Who’s ready to have some fun today?" Samantha asked, her voice full of excitement. "Me! Me! Me!" the children echoed back, their faces lighting up with joy. "Great! Let’s go have some fun then," Sam said, as we drove off from the orphanage to the park for a picnic. Lucy had organized the picnic for the children from the local orphanage. It was a kind gesture, but it also had another purpose. Lucy hoped that the relaxed setting would help Samantha and Andre grow closer. She had instructed Samantha to invite Andre, emphasizing the importance of building a connection with him. When we arrived at the park, the children ran around, laughing and playing, while Samantha kept sending me on various errands. "Kind, get me another towel from the car now!" she commanded. "Alright, Sam," I replied calmly, heading towards the car. As I reached the car, Andre arrived. I saw Andre approaching, and my heart skipped a beat. "You're the girl from last time, right?" Andre asked. Before I could respond, Samantha spotted him and ran over, hugging him tightly while rolling her eyes at me. "Andre, I’m so glad you could make it," she exclaimed, turning towards me. "You, what are you still doing standing there? Have you fetched what I asked for?" she snapped. I hurried to open the car and get the towel. I was used to Samantha always looking for opportunities to embarrass me. ANDRE’S POV I watched as Kind left for the car and Sam pulled me away. I felt guilty about the way Samantha spoke to her. I hope that girl wasn’t bothering you? She wanted to talk to you so badly, but don’t give her any attention. She’s just a good for nothing," Samantha said dismissively. I felt very angry but had to keep my emotions in check. I didn’t want to reveal my feelings for Kind and put her in more pain. I wanted so badly to talk to her, so when I saw her heading to a bushy part of the park, I followed. KIND’S POV I needed a break from Samantha’s constant demands and yelling. I wandered into a bushy part of the park when suddenly, a fierce looking vampire emerged, his eyes gleaming with hunger. I froze in fear. "A vampire?" I whispered to myself. I screamed for help as the vampire lunged at me. Andre rushed out, and I fell to the ground, covering my eyes in fear. "Kind, get up. He’s gone," Andre said, pulling me up. I opened my eyes slowly, still shaking. I leaned on him as he wrapped his arms around me. "You’re safe now, Kind. It’s okay," he said softly. I felt safe in his arms and didn’t want to let go, but I also didn’t want Samantha to see us like this. ANDRE’S POV How did you manage to fight him off? Do you know what that was?" Kind asked anxiously. "A beast, I think. I didn’t fight him; he ran away as soon as he saw me," I replied. "That was a vampire, Andre!" Kind said in shock, raising an eyebrow. "A vampire? You mean vampires are real and among us?" I asked, equally shocked. "Yes, and I don’t know how you managed to scare him away, but I’m grateful, Andre. You saved my life," she said. I nodded, still trying to process the whole vampire thing. "Come, let’s get you out of here." KIND’S POV As we headed back to meet Samantha and the kids, I was limping and in pain. Andre had to carry me. "Andre, please put me down. I’ll manage. I don’t want Samantha to see you carrying me," I pleaded. "Don’t worry, Kind. I believe she’ll understand that you’re injured," he said softly. "I know Samantha very well, and she won’t be happy about this," I insisted. "Relax, Kind. I got you," he assured me. As we approached Sam and the kids, I saw Sam’s face. She didn’t look pleased, but she tried to hide her anger from Andre. "Andre, what happened? Is she okay?" Sam asked, pretending to care. "Sam, she’s hurt, so I had to help her. She couldn’t walk," Andre responded politely. "You’re such a gentleman, but you shouldn’t bother yourself much about this girl. Trust me, I know her too well. It’s her way of throwing herself at you so that you can pity her," Samantha said, smirking at me. "Samantha, I saw her get hurt, okay? I don’t think she was pretending," Andre replied, hoping to make her understand. "Alright, baby. I trust you," she responded with a pretentious smile. As soon as Andre left to get water, Samantha dragged me to a corner. "You lowlife, you were busy throwing yourself at Andre and even let him carry you," she said furiously. "Sam, that’s not what happened…" before I could finish, she shut me up with a slap. "My mom will deal with you later," she said, fuming as she walked away. "Madam Lucy won’t spare me," I said to myself in tears. "What punishment will she give me this time? I need to call Uncle Linus and inform him because Madam Lucy might kill me this time."
