Chapter 16Nick sorted through the wholly inadequate contents of their combined first aid kits with trembling hands. The packets of sterile dressing crinkled in his grasp when he brushed aside the tiny particles of debris raining down from above. He swallowed. Hard. Panic chipping away at his pretense of calm with each passing moment. John and Dean had their fingers locked together. Shadows danced over the pair, softening, but not hiding John’s face, taut with strain while he whispered comforting words into Dean’s ears.
