Episode 3: A Dangerous Game

393 Words
Lena had barely settled into her second day at Blackwood Enterprises when she realized something—Dominic Blackwood was testing her. The way he watched her, the small smirks when she got flustered, the impossible demands he threw at her just to see if she could keep up—it was all a game to him. And she wasn’t going to lose. By noon, she had successfully rescheduled three of his meetings, dealt with a demanding client, and even managed to bring his coffee exactly the way he liked it—black, no sugar, just like his personality. But Dominic wasn’t done with her yet. "Cancel my five o’clock," he said, leaning back in his chair, his sleeves rolled up, exposing strong forearms. Lena frowned. "Sir, that’s a meeting with Mr. Hayworth. He flew in from London just for this." Dominic arched a brow. "Are you questioning me?" She hesitated, then straightened her spine. "No, I just think it would be unprofessional to cancel last minute." For a moment, he said nothing. Then, to her shock, he smirked. "Interesting," he murmured, standing up and walking toward her. Lena held her breath as he stopped inches away, close enough that she could catch the faint scent of his cologne—dark and intoxicating. "You have a backbone, Ms. Carter," he mused, his voice lower now. "I wasn’t sure before." She swallowed, her pulse hammering. Was he… was he flirting with her? Before she could respond, the office door swung open. Victoria Hastings. The moment she walked in, Lena could tell—this woman was trouble. Tall, elegant, with perfect blonde waves and a knowing smirk, she looked Lena up and down before turning to Dominic. "Still hiring cute little assistants, I see," Victoria purred, striding forward like she owned the place. "Dominic, darling, we need to talk." Lena felt like she had just walked into something dangerous. Dominic’s jaw tightened, but his expression remained unreadable. "What do you want, Victoria?" Victoria’s sharp eyes flickered back to Lena. "I’m sure you can give us a moment. Right, sweetheart?" Lena’s fists clenched, but she forced a polite smile. "Of course, Ms. Hastings." She walked out, but not before stealing one last glance at Dominic. His eyes met hers, intense, unreadable. And for the first time, she wondered just how deep she had stepped into this game.
