Chapter 38

1220 Words

Alex's POV I don't have to be fully mated with Amber to feel her hesitance as we leave the hospital. It's like she's expecting the worst. I wish I could tell her that our pack will treat her better, but she'd never believe me. And why should she? This is the same pack that abandoned her when she needed them. I shoot some whispering nurses a look. These wolves should be ashamed of themselves. Every pack member has the right to walk freely here without creepy doctors and gossiping nurses. Amber's hands coil around mine as I help her into the car. Despite my best efforts, she stays completely silent during the short drive home. We step into the house, and she winces as she eases herself onto the couch. "Do you need anything?" "No. I'm fine. You can go. I'm sure you have work to do.
