Chapter 2 — Six Handsome Problems

503 Words
Elliot Vale had faced many difficulties in his life. Unreasonable managers. Endless paperwork. A printer that broke every Monday. But nothing had prepared him for standing in front of six handsome men while a goddess explained that he needed to make them emotionally attached to him. “This is a joke, right?” Elliot asked weakly. Nobody laughed. Seraphina, the goddess, waved her hand. Six glowing symbols appeared in the air. “Meet the guardians who will help you gather holy power.” The silver-haired man stepped forward first. His elegant smile was almost suspiciously perfect. “Adrian Frost, royal magician,” he introduced himself. “I hope you won't be too troublesome.” Elliot immediately disliked how attractive that smile was. The second man wore a knight's uniform and looked as if smiling was against his personal principles. “Lucien Blackwood. Captain of the royal guard.” “Nice to meet you,” Elliot murmured. Lucien merely nodded. Next came a golden-haired man with a playful expression. “I'm Prince Raphael. Please don't fall in love with me too quickly.” Elliot stared at him. “Don't worry. I wasn't planning to fall in love with anyone.” Raphael laughed as though Elliot had just told the funniest joke in the kingdom. The fourth guardian, a cheerful commander named Felix, greeted Elliot with a warm handshake. The fifth, healer Noah, offered him a reassuring smile. Finally, the tallest man in the room crossed his arms. “Dorian Ashford,” he said coldly. “I don't trust strangers.” “That's fine,” Elliot replied. “I don't trust this situation either.” For a moment, silence filled the hall. Then Felix burst out laughing. Even Noah covered his mouth to hide a smile. Dorian looked offended. Seraphina clapped her hands. “Wonderful! You're already becoming acquainted.” “Acquainted?” Elliot repeated. “I just offended someone!” “Emotional connections begin in many different ways.” Elliot decided that the goddess was either very wise or completely insane. A small golden card suddenly appeared before him. HOLY POWER: 0% CURRENT OBJECTIVE: FORM A GENUINE BOND WITH THE SIX GUARDIANS. DEADLINE: THE NEXT BLOOD MOON. Elliot swallowed. “How long do I have?” “Thirty days.” “Thirty—?!” He turned toward the six men. Raphael winked. Adrian looked amused. Lucien remained expressionless. Felix was still smiling, Noah appeared sympathetic, and Dorian seemed determined to throw him out of the palace. Elliot sighed. Twenty million yen. He had twenty million yen waiting for him back home. He absolutely refused to die in a fantasy world before enjoying his retirement. “Fine,” he declared, straightening his back. “I'll do my best.” The goddess smiled. “Excellent. Your first task begins tonight.” Elliot's confidence vanished. “Why do I feel like I'm going to regret this?” Because, somewhere in the palace, six very different men were about to become the biggest problem of his life.
