Douglas’s personal hovercar landed in front of the expansive entrance to Caravan’s main office just as the horizon began to blush pink. As he stepped out, the smell of night still hung the air. Caravan’sDouglas straightened his suit and fluffed his cravat as the guard fell out the other side. The car then whooshed away to its assigned spot. A public tram landed beside Douglas, and the other three guards from the night shift spilled out. They sent the customary glare Douglas’s way. He didn’t acknowledge them. Just because he had to be escorted by them, didn’t mean he would buy a bigger car for them to travel in. One guard could still make sure Douglas behaved while he was traveling.
