Douglas stared at the holographic documents floating over his desk. No guards stood by his door. No one fidgeted with their holsters. But it was a hollow victory. Douglas reached towards one of his charts when the information at his fingertips suddenly swapped to a different graph. Marvin must have just walked in. Douglas had programmed his documents to switch to less sensitive and confidential information whenever that man entered his office. “Other people knock,” Douglas said. “I don’t have to,” Marvin answered, lowering himself into the seat facing Douglas. Marvin Bancroft was a sinewy, white-haired old man with hungry eyes, an alpha wolf. If not for Douglas’s quick rise to power, aided by Teacher’s predictions, Marvin would have been the next CEO of Caravan. And they both knew it.
