The evening of the Mating ceremony had at long last shown up, and the pack's social event place was filled with energy.
The full moon's bright light shone on the clearing. I found myself on the periphery of the crowd, feeling a combination of anticipation and anxiety.
I pondered Ryker's odd arrival and the strange events in the forest, but I attempted to put it out of my mind. I was focused only on the fact that something significant was about to occur. I could sense the electric atmosphere in the air and feel the energy of the pack.
Luca, the leader of the pack, stood confidently with his eyes surveying the pack. His eyes locked onto me, causing a chill to travel down my back.
We had matured alongside each other, our connection deepened by the adventures and experiences we had in common. I had always been aware that I was meant to be his partner, to support him and see him succeed.
As the ceremony started, the pack's chatters and murmurs faded away, and everyone's eyes went to Luca. He lifted his hands, and his voice blasted through the whole arena. "This evening, we gather to celebrate the union of two souls, chosen by the ancient traditions of our pack.”
The pack burst into cheering and clapping, their happy faces showing their joy. I experienced a sudden burst of vitality, with my feet eagerly tapping on the floor. This was the moment I had been anticipating.
Luca looked into my eyes and grinned, his teeth glistening in the evening sunlight. I sensed a heartbeat in my chest, my heart skipping a single beat. He summoned me over, and I approached him, my paws barely making a noise as they touched the ground.
When I reached his side, Luca looked at me with eyes filled with a fierce intensity. "Sheena, you have been destined as my mate, my partner, and my friend," he said, his voice low and commanding.
The pack's loud cheers and praise increased, their happy and joyful expressions shining on their faces. I felt as if I were floating, my feet only lightly brushing against the ground. I was getting too excited
However, at that moment, Luca's face changed. His eyes dropped, and his voice trembled. "Sheena, I...I am sorry, but I, Luca, today, reject you as my mate."
The pack's cheers reduced, their expressions falling in shock and mistrust. I felt as if I had been hit in the stomach, all of my breath gone. I looked at Luca, my eyes wide with disappointment, disgrace and hurt.
Kyra, my dear friend, stepped forward, her face filled with concern. "Luca, what are you saying? Sheena is your chosen mate, selected by our pack's traditions.”
Luca looked away, his eyes shifting to Kyra before meeting mine with a hint of disappointment. "Ermm… I just can't do this. We're not right for each other, sorry.” Luca said
The pack's murmurs grew louder, their faces filled with shock and distrust. I felt like I was standing alone, my world crumbling.
Silently, I fled, with the wind rustling through my fur, vanishing into the shadows of the forest. The pack's cries and shouts drifted away, as I listened to the beat of my heart and the crunch of leaves under my feet.
I kept running until my legs felt sore and my lungs were on fire, until the forest became thick and the trees appeared to be enclosing me. I came to a halt, breathing heavily, and glanced around. Alone in the fog, I was lost and had no way to return.
The forest, once a sanctuary, now felt eerie and foreboding, with their shadows hanging over me.
I screamed loudly, the sound bouncing off the trees, expressing pain and rejection.
The woods seemed to absorb my distress, their silence a clear sign of my loneliness. I stood there, frozen in time, my heart heavy with sorrow, my soul lost and alone.
I remained there, frozen in time, my heart heavy with sorrow, my soul lost and alone. The woods appeared to murmur sympathies, its leaves stirring delicately in the breeze. I felt like an injured creature, looking for shelter in the haziness, away from the pack.
As I remained there, a weak stirring sound came from the underbrush. I turned my head, my ears livened up, and my eyes checked the shadows. A little, unkempt animal arose, its large, round eyes sparkling with interest. It was a youthful bunny, Its soft fur, a gentle contrast to the harsh reality of my situation.
The hare moved toward me mindfully, its little paws barely uttering a sound on the woods floor. I felt an ache of trouble, recalling the times I had played with such animals, pursuing them through the hills, and giggling with happiness. Presently, I was distant from everyone else, dismissed by my pack, and left to confront the darkness of the woods.
The bunny arrived at my side, and I felt a delicate push against my leg. I looked down, and our eyes met. At that time, I felt a companionship, a feeling of grasping that rose above species. The bunny appeared to appreciate my anger, my distress, and my fear.
Without hesitation, the hare began to groom my fur, its soft tongue a soothing balm to my hurt soul. I closed my eyes, letting the gentle touch wash over me, and for a moment, I forgot about the rejection, anger, and fear. I was just a wolf, standing in the forest, surrounded by nature's beauty.
With newfound confidence, I looked at the hare and nodded my head in silent thanks. The hare seemed to understand and continued to groom me, its soft fur a reminder of the comfort and peace that can be found in unexpected places. And I stood there, a wolf in the forest, surrounded by nature's beauty and the kindness of a small, furry creature.
While the hare was still grooming me, I experienced a feeling of calm coming over me. I came to understand that I was not by myself in the woods - there were still animals who were compassionate, empathetic, and loyal, even during difficult times.
The hare's gentle touch had reminded me of the power of connection, empathy, and the strength within me.
As we stood there, a rustling sound came from the underbrush. The hare's ears perked up, and it looked around nervously.
I looked in the direction it was looking, my senses fully alert. All of a sudden, a shape appeared from the darkness.
A wolf locked its gaze on me with a disturbing intensity.
I growled softly, my anger rising, as the hare darted away in search of safety. The wolf took a step closer, its eyes never leaving mine.
He seemed near, but was distanced at the same time. It seemed like he was observing me. I couldn't really tell. I was scared to some extent… but I wanted to really know who it was. Then, he said “Hey” As he drew closer
I'm unsure about what happened, but the wolf's words repeated in my mind before I passed out. I was baffled and lost, as if I had been brought to an unfamiliar realm.
Upon waking, I felt like I found myself in a dim, moist cavern. The air was musty, with just the faint noise of dripping water far away.
Upon awakening, I realized I was still in the forest, although it seemed more like a gloomy, wet cave. The air was musty, accompanied by the distant sound of water trickling.
I attempted to rise, but my legs felt weak like gelatin. Although I couldn't see the wolf, I felt its presence as it observed me from the darkness. I let out a low growl, feeling my frustration increase, while attempting to figure out where I was.
Out of nowhere, a dim glow emerged in the distance. The wolf appeared from the fog, its eyes glowing in the faint light. Approaching me at a leisurely pace, its movements were nearly mesmerizing.
"You are in good company," it said, its voice low and imposing. "Please, don't be scared”
I snarled, baring my teeth, as the wolf approached. Its eyes seemed to pierce into my soul, searching for something.
Once more, darkness enveloped me, and I sensed being dragged into a place of disorder and chaos. Upon awakening, I found myself in the forest again, but the rabbit was not in sight. While glancing around, I noticed a change had occurred. The trees appeared to be higher, the air seemed denser, and the sky appeared darker.
And afterward, I saw it. A figure rising up out of the shadows, its eyes fixed on me with a strong force. The wolf. It was coming for me, and I realised that my life could at no point ever go back in the future.
The wolf's eyes appeared to ignite with an internal fire as it moved towards me, its paws uttering scarcely a sound on the backwoods floor. I snarled delicately, my temper raised, as I stepped back, my eyes fixed on the wolf.
However, it didn't stop. It continued coming, its eyes never leaving mine, until it was directly before me.
A flood of energy went through me, and I felt my senses wake up.
And afterward, everything went dark once more.
At the point when I opened my eyes once more, I was still in the woodland, the wolf standing over me.
The wolf left and strolled, its eyes never leaving mine. I followed, my paws uttering scarcely a sound on the woodland floor.
As we strolled, the woods became deeper, the trees came nearer together. I could feel a weird energy emanating, an energy that appeared to be pulling me towards something.
And afterward, the wolf stopped. It came to me, its eyes shining in the faint light.
What's more, with that, it dismissed and strolled towards me. I really wasn't understanding everything that was going on at that moment. It felt like I was in a trance.
I remained there, my heart beating, my senses on guard. What's going on? Are all of this connected to the rejection? What's more, who was this puzzling wolf?
