Maya walked home blindly, drowning in her thoughts, urging herself not to cry. She didn’t like how Damon had once again come to defend her. All he did was rescue her like she was a damsel in distress. She couldn’t take care of herself? They thought she was incapable? Anger seeped into her body. She was not a child. She forced the front door open and climbed the stairs to her room in a rage. Her mother was saying something about her ungratefulness and she didn't care for the first time in her life. Maya was thankful that her mother didn’t regard her as a child to be saved and taken care of. She must know I am fully grown up and mature enough to survive on my own. She punched her pillow and pushed her head into it to scream. Her phone dinged beside her, and she looked up to see who it was
