After putting the Sunday roast in the oven and preparing the potatoes and vegetables for later cooking, I went back into the living room and sat next to Mark on the sofa. “It’s great living here,” Sam said from the easy chair. “I love Mum and Dad, but with you two, well, it’s different, you know?” “We understand,” Mark said. “I can be myself here. I know mum and dad are okay with me being gay, but…they can’t know what it’s like.” “Yeah,” Mark said. “You’re welcome to stay here whenever you want. We love having you. You’re the nearest thing that Mark and I will ever have to a son of our own.” “I hadn’t thought of it like that.
