“And just because you feel that way, doesn’t mean you’ll stay that way.” Bea sighed and whispered the words to her favorite song. She rolled over and sank back into dreamland. She sang along with her dream. “Bea. Stop singing and go back to sleep.” Mommy patted her behind. Awake again, Bea pointed at Daryl on the comforter. Then Dumpty. From character to character, she pointed at each one and whispered their name. “One, two, three. Daryl and Dumpty.” Back again. So pretty. All new—all clean. “Four, five, six. Up in a tree.” She rolled over. That didn’t sound right—the words to the song were different. She needed Mommy’s phone. She slowly lifted her head to peek. No chance.
