So much more to tell you, and yet so little. Last things first: after the art history class, led by a young gay man, I saw Savin sitting in the farthest corner of the back row, where he was out of sight of the doorway. I thought I could figure out why and resisted the urge to go join him. Being cornered by an elderly man would probably have sent him bolting out in a panic, or should have. Anyway, at the end of it, I saw him gingerly approach one of the three presenters and heard him ask, “What colleges are best for studying art history?” I saw the gay man raise one eyebrow and allow that he had gone to UC Davis in California.
