THE JOURNEY TO THE VILLAGE

CHAPTER TEN

Then I saw a girl about my age running towards me.

'Priscilla!' I shouted excitedly running to meet her. Priscilla is my classmate and good friend . I knew she was from Enugu but never knew it was the same village as my mother's.

'Happy Xmas Pricy' I shouted hugging her

'Happy Xmas' she wished back

'How are you, what are you doing here? I asked smiling

'This is my father's village' she replied

'This is my mom's too'

'Are you serious!' she exclaimed

'Yes I am' I said

'Wow that's good to know' she said

'you are not looking bad ' she said turning me round as if she was inspecting me

'I saw you when you went to drop your offering, I had to pinch myself and cleaning my eyes several times to be sure you are the one'she said demonstrating what she did. I laughed Priscilla is one of the most funniest classmate I have, if you sit with her in class, just be ready to laugh. She talks and act in a funny way, bringing out jokes in the most critical situation. She is very friendly and smart too and everyone even our teachers love her. I am very certain if she contest for the post of the deputy senior prefect in our SSS 2 she will have massive votes because everyone loves her.

'You are not looking bad yourself' I complimented

'But you look better' she insisted

'Omo see fine girl' she teased me

'You have started again abi? I said jokingly

'What of your siblings?' she asked

'They are okay , they are inside the church' I replied

'We are waiting for my grandma and uncles'

'They are having meeting with elders of the church'

'What of my Gloria?'. Gloria was her only little sister , it was just the two of them. I really love her little sister infact all our classmates do, a very adorable and smart kid just like her big sister. I like to call her my Gloria

'She is fine'. She said

'She is over there'. I looked to where she was pointing and I saw her sister clinging to their mother

'Awww she looks so fine' I complimented

'Thank you, she has to be o'

'Not when she has a big sis like me' she bragged

'Please I will see you in school when we resume' she said

'Please let me go back to my people'

'Before they will leave me for church'

'Take care ' she said as she hugged me

'You too'

'Keep gist o'. she shouted as she ran off

'You too and greet my Gloria o' I shouted back

'Okay ' she replied.

I turned and walked hurriedly back to church.

'What took you so long?' Mom asked

'You didn't find any provision shop near by?'

'No mom I did'

'I just saw my classmate ,Priscilla'

'Am sorry I kept you waiting' I said

She collected the water and biscuits,gave her sisters and asked me to take the rest to my siblings and cousins and I did. Few minutes later, the meeting was over and grandma and my uncles returned. Grandma apologized for keeping us waiting but before we left the church, grandma took us to a Reverend Father's house for prayers and after that we went back home. Everybody went about their chores, my mother and her sisters went to prepare food ,after everyone was done, we ate our food. Dorathy, Chioma and I went to sit outside under a big tree to receive fresh air and to gist. Barely an hour of sitting outside, Junior and Cosmas ran outside shouting

'Sister Jennifer!! 'they shouted

'Come and see o' they said in an alarming way. My heart skipped a beat

'What is it?' I asked scared of the unknown

'just come fast o' they replied hurriedly behaving in a scary way.

What is it? Chioma asked standing up

'Did something happen, stop scaring somebody and answer' said Dorathy

'Mommy' Junior said and ran in followed by Cosmas

'Did I just hear mommy' I said asking no one in particular,I didn't even wait for Dorathy and Chioma I ran after my brothers
