Forbidden Softness

Graves and Thorne exchanged a quick glance before forcing a chuckle, stepping inside as if nothing was out of place. “Good morning, boss,” they said together with a bow. Graves then stepped forward, reaching for the tray, but Damien shifted it out of reach with a cold glare that sent him retreating at once. “We didn’t expect to see you here this early, Boss” Thorne offered, trying to sound casual. “And I didn’t expect you to wait this long to check on her,” Damien shot back, the chill in his tone enough to silence them. Graves and Thorne exchanged another look, their lips pressed together at a loss for how to respond. It was still so early the sky outside hadn’t even cleared, and they were sure Lila would still be asleep. What they hadn’t expected was to find their boss here instead.
