Chapter Four

The next few days flew by, and before I knew it, Friday had arrived. I dressed simply, and then left with Eros. I was shaking with anxiety throughout the whole ride, but Eros was doing a good job in comforting me. We were in his limo, security guards in a different car trailing behind us. I can't believe I actually went along with this... Soon, we reached the front, and we parked. Oddly enough, Mom's car wasn't there. "Eros, I don't think they're home." I was relieved yet disappointed. We still came out anyways. "Then why is that light on?" Eros pointed to a window. "That's Lacey's room!" I ran to the front door. "Lacey?" I did our special code knock. No answer. "Lacey!!!" I heard a noise come from inside, but the door didn't open. I looked to Eros. "The door..." Eros nodded, and turned to the security guards, "Get this door open right away." In no time at all, the door was off its hinges, and I ran into the house. "LACEY!!!" I called for my little sister, and ran into her room. "Lacey?" She wasn't in there. I had a horrible feeling. "Hey August, it smells like vomit..." My heart sank of Eros' words. I ran into my room thinking she'd be there, and there she was. I nearly screamed. "Lacey!!!" I sprinted to her side. She was laying on the ground stomach first, and was nearly unmoving. I scooped her up into my lap, and her eyes opened slightly. "Austy... You came back..." She made a smile. "Lacey..." I was so scared. Her skin was burning and her eyes were glazed over. "EROS, TAKE US TO THE HOSPITAL!" Right away, Lacey and I were whisked away and taken into Eros' limo. Lacey's breathing was weak, and she wasn't completely responsive. "Lacey, Lacey, Lacey..." Eros stayed by my side throughout this whole ordeal, and Lacey was taken in immediately once we reached the hospital. The doctors took her from me, and when they did I broke down. "E-Eros..." I looked up at him from where I sat on the floor. "Shh..." Eros sat next to me, "Shh..." "I regret to inform you that Lacey's health is in very poor condition, and her chances of making it are slim to none." I stared at the doctor. "Can we go in and see her?" Eros asked the doctor for me. "Yes, but she is fading quickly." I ran into Lacey's treatment room, and there she laid. She looked like angel. The warm rays of the sun glowing on her skin and her blonde hair shimmering in the light. I wanted to cry, but I wouldn't. I wouldn't show her my tears, I wouldn't ask her about mom, I would just love her. "Lacey..." She moved her head to look at me, her tired eyes crinkling to show her smile. "I knew you would come back August." I held the tears back. "Lacey, sweetheart, I'm Eros." She looked up at him, "You're so pretty..." Eros smiled and bent down next to her bed. "I'm the man who will marry your big brother, is that okay?" My heart nearly burst. Lacey c****d her head to the side, "Are you... Nice...?" I could tell it was hard for her to speak. "He's the best Lacey. One day, we'll all go and dance with the fairies together, okay?" Lacey smiled and rose her hand up with her little remaining strength. "I wuv you Austy, I can't wait to see yours' and Eros' baby... I hope she'll look like me." Eros and I looked at each other, and back at Lacey. "She will Lacey, we'll all go dance with the fairies. And guess what Lacey?" She giggled softly, "What?" Pretty soon, you can meet dad and dance with the fairies." Eros and I had put her hand in ours, "With daddy?" I nodded, "Yes, with daddy. I love you Lacey. So, so much." Lacey nodded, and her arm fell limp. "Mm.. I like tha..t..." And a loud beep sounded from the heart monitor. I couldn't comprehend what just happened. Doctors came rushing in, and Lacey's hand fell out of mine. "L-Lacey?" The doctors took the bed she was on and rushed her out, leaving my staring at an empty space. 'Am I just supposed to... Accept this...?' I tried to say something, but nothing came out. I was in shock. I looked to Eros, and his eyes were glassy. Me though, I couldn't cry yet. I couldn't accept it. Eros took me in his arms, and we sat like that for hours. Hugging over Lacey. We didn't speak a word, but we knew what the other was thinking. I awoke in a large bed. A very soft large bed. I looked to my side and I was alone. Suddenly, the events of yesterday hit me at full force. I still couldn't cry... My brain refused to believe Lacey was... gone... "August?" The voice of my beloved made it's why through the door, "Ah, come in Eros!" He gave me a gentle smile and set on the edge of the bed. "You fell asleep on the hospital floor yesterday, so I brought you to my house. He handed me cup. "Steamed milk and cinnamon, I know you like it." I smile softly, "I do." The next day, police and doctors wanted to see the house in order to track Mom, and find out more on Lacey's condition. Eros and I took them through, and sometime later the police and concluded that Mom had left. They're working on finding out where. The doctors are still baffled on what caused Lacey's passing, but they're making progress in their research. Eros and I sat in Lacey's room, on her bed. It smelt so much like her... That's when realization had set in. The tears just started flowing they wouldn't stop. "Eros... I miss her... I miss Lacey..." He hugged me tightly, and I cried on his shoulder as he whispered soothing words into my ear. ••••• The day has come! It's been four years since Lacey's passing, and Mom was been tracked to be in Sweden. The police are working on her precise location. But on the better side, today is Eros' and my wedding day! Uncle Mark would walk me down the aisle, and I would find Eros at the altar. I refused to wear a wedding dress though. The ceremony was gorgeous, and I was a hit with Eros' family. We said our vows, and exchanged the kiss that would change our lives forever. ••• We're living in Eros' penthouse! Today, we're adopting a little girl. It's been two years since we've been married, and we're in our upper twenties now. Eros and I saw many beautiful little girls, but one in particular caught our eye. She had curly blonde hair, soft light skin, and large blue eyes. Her eyes were what set her apart from Lacey. We knew she was the one. "What's your name?" Eros and I bent down to talk to her. She played with her fingers shyly, "Lizzy..." I smiled, "Lizzy huh? How old are you?" She looked at Eros and I. "I'm fiwve." And she held up four fingers. Eros and I were sold. • We adopted Lizzy, the sweetest daughter ever, and she changed our lives. She reads to Lacey every night. Tonight, as we were tucking her in, Eros read her a book, and Lizzy said a little prayer. She never forgets to add her signature line. "And please let Aunty Lacey be happy." Eros and I love her so much. After we tucked her in, we went into out room, and laid down together tiredly. "Good night My Love." I turned on my side. "Sleep tight My Princess." And Eros faced my side, wrapping an arm around me. We couldn't be any happier than we are now.
