The New King and Queen

“Before she is sent away, I propose a divorce! The King of the Baldamia Empire shall not be married to a traitor.” Before anyone else could even speak, Alvina looked up with a smile. “I accept the divorce.” Even Lucius was taken aback by her quick and straightforward response, but a second later, he happily nodded his head. Maybe she was going crazy. . . That would be even better! The royal priest cleared his throat, “Do you truly agree to accept this divorce without any objections?” Alvina smiled, “Yes, I accept it.” “However, the Asber royal bloodline of the Baldamia Empire shall not stop. Therefore, I request an approval of my remarriage. My new wife, the new Queen of the Empire, will be. . .” The door to the Audience Room opened and a woman around the same age with Alvina stepped into the room in a red gown. Alvina slowly turned around, curious to see who it would be. However, in no way did it except to be. . . “Princess Beatrice!” One of the ministers shouted in surprise. Beatrice’s eyes first landed on her sister, who was on the ground. A sinister grin crept up her face as she walked straight past Alvina without acknowledging her and over to Lucius. She wrapped her hand around his arm, and he bent down to kiss her on the forehead. “Beatrice?” Alvina’s eyes widened as the first sign of shock since this morning appeared on her face. “Goodbye. . . sister.” Beatrice grinned as she turned to look at the guards, who stepped forward and dragged Alvina out of the room.  It was on purpose! They took her away right after she saw Beatrice. . . Her sister betrayed her? --- Alvina is brought to the deepest cell in the biggest dungeon of the Empire, where the worst criminals or traitors were kept. In one day, she literally fell from heaven to hell. Alvina sat in the corner of her cramped cell, playing around with the straws on the ground. No sunlight was able to enter the dungeon, so she didn’t even know what time of the day it was right now. Maybe it was the next day already. She would never know. The eerie silence was suddenly broken by the sound of footsteps getting louder and louder until it stopped in front of her cell. Alvina didn’t bother to look up as she thought maybe it was the guards bringing her food. However, the door opened and she saw from the corner of her eye a red gown brushing against the floor. “Sister, are you not going to greet your only sister, the Queen?” Beatrice said mockingly with a smile on her face. Alvina looked up without any expression and stared into Beatrice’s eyes.  A guard walked in and carried a clean wooden chair in, and Beatrice elegantly took a seat. In a dirty prisoner’s outfit that was way too big for her, Alvina couldn’t even compare to Beatrice right now, who was dressed inside a new red gown with her hair elegantly tied up in a bun.  Alvina scoffed, “Sister, you are not my sister.” Beatrice’s smile only widened, “How could you say that? We have been sisters for all these years. My feelings are hurt.” Alvina chuckled at Beatrice’s fake and dramatic act, and she didn’t say anything as she began playing with the hay and dirt on the ground again. “I didn’t want to come to this disgusting place, but I decided to be nice and considerate since after all, we lived together for all these years. I am sure you would like to know some things before you die.” Alvina’s hand froze for a quick second before she continued to play with the hay. Beatrice’s smile disappeared as she wasn’t very pleased with Alvina’s response, but she continued to speak anyway because she knew Alvina was listening. “I hate you, you know that?” She said with a crooked smile. Alvina didn’t seem surprised, “I know now.” However, inside her heart was pounding and she could feel her blood boiling inside of her. The sister she had treated so well for all these years tells her now that she hates her?! “I was always the illegitimate daughter of the mistress!” Beatrice’s expression suddenly darkened and she raised her voice slightly, “Not only Dad, everyone! Everyone! Everyone treated you like the princess, and I was always just in your shadow.” Alvina furrowed her eyebrows together. Of course. Jealousy.  She chuckled, “Jealousy is a disease. Get well soon.” Beatrice’s face turned even uglier as her lip quivered, “I’m not jealous of you! Why would I be jealous of you?! I am the Queen now, and you. . .” She smirked, “You’re going to die soon!” Alvina stretched her neck out, “So you are here to kill me?” Beatrice grinned. “Then why don’t you hurry up? I rather die than look at your face another second.” Beatrice’s mouth fell open and she looked so angry Alvina was prepared to fight back if Beatrice tried to slap her the next second. However, the slap never came. “Be patient, my story isn’t finished yet,” Beatrice said, her hands shaking as she tried to calm herself down to finish her amazing “story”. “You know Lucius. How did the ministers think of him? I told them!”  Alvina looked up as a hint of surprise flashed past her face. “Hahahaha! Lucius likes me! We met once during my coming-of-age ceremony, and the person he liked was me! So, I asked for his help. Of course he was very willing to!” Hearing this, Alvina had to admit that she was surprised. So, the mastermind wasn’t Lucius Cohen. It was her own sister. The person closest to her!  “You want to know one last thing before you die, hahahaha!” Beatrice leaned forward with a creepy yet excited smile on her face, “I’m sure you do!” Alvina glared at Beatrice, so sick of her that she felt like throwing up. Alvina had grown up with this person sitting across from her, yet now, Alvina seemed to just know that she had never known her sister well. She was an actress. A very good actress at that. But no matter how great of an actress you are, it is impossible to act forever. One day, the mask you put on will fall off.  And now, Beatrice has taken her mask off. Beatrice smiled, making sure that Alvina was listening before she said slowly and clearly, “Your parents. . . I! Killed! Them!”
