A Princess?

“So, what do you think about the trade? You saved my body so I’ll give you my body,” he whispered in the dark, causing Adela’s face to heat up even more. “Who were those people? Why were they chasing after you?” Adela asked, completely ignoring Cason’s previous statement. Cason pressed his lips together in a manner that looked like he was deciding on whether she was trustworthy enough for him to tell. Adela didn’t rush him and waited until he finally said, “They were my brother’s people. I was hunting outside and he must have sent those people to kill me.” Adela raised one eyebrow, “The crown prince? How do you know?” Cason shrugged and flipped around, laying on his back. Adela didn’t press him any further, noticing that he didn’t want to talk about it.  After a minute or so, he flipped back around, facing Adela. He stared at her for several seconds before saying softly, “You are really beautiful, you know that?” Adela looked up and scoffed, “Of course I do!” She wasn’t going to be humble about her looks now, because she definitely knew just how gorgeous she was. In her past life, she wasn’t extremely beautiful and she had to say that a few times throughout her life, she was envious of Beatrice’s gorgeous face which was inherited from her mother. However, that only made the past Alvina believe that the heavens were fair. Beatrice was gorgeous but also was the daughter of the mistress, yet she didn’t have Beatrice’s beauty but was the crown princess and only child of the Queen. Now, she doesn't think like that anymore. . . Adela chuckled at her past self. She wasn’t going to let the heavens decide her fate and what was fair. This time, she was going to be beautiful and powerful. . . She was definitely not going to resort to one or the other. Adela looked up into Cason’s eyes, which she could clearly make out even in the darkness. They were like black holes, drawing her in.  “I am probably the most beautiful woman in all of Baldamia,” she said with a smile. Beatrice’s mother, the King’s only mistress, was known to be the most beautiful woman in the land until her own daughter took that title from her since Beatrice was younger. However, anyone could easily tell that Adela was much prettier than Beatrice on many levels. Therefore, Adela had the confidence to say she was the most beautiful lady in the Empire. Cason lifted one corner of his lip up before nodding his head, “Indeed, you are.” He had met Princess Beatrice, or Queen Beatrice now. . . at the late Queen’s accession ceremony, so he could make a comparison between the Queen and Adela. Like she had said, Adela beat Queen Beatrice in terms of beauty. . . It was too bad she was a mere peasant in the countryside, where no one could even see her. “How old are you?” Cason asked again. Adela thought for a second before revealing her truthful age, “18.” “18. . .” Cason raised one eyebrow thoughtfully, “That is a great age.” “How old are you?” Cason leaned forward slightly, drawing in the distance between them, “Guess?” Adela roller her eyes, “Whatever then. I’m going to sleep.” Cason’s smile disappeared as he frowned pitifully, debating on whether he should just tell her or not. Finally, he couldn’t hold it in anymore, “I’m 24.” Adela opened her eyes again and looked up, “24?” “Mhm!” They were both silent for a few seconds before Adela said softly, “Do you have a princess?” Cason raised one eyebrow before he chuckled lightly, “I don’t. . . yet. Do you want to be my princess?” His voice was very playful and Adela could tell that he was only joking and flirting around with her. She ignored the question and instead asked, “What about your older brother? Is he married yet?” Cason’s smile disappeared upon the mention of his brother, but he still responded, “Yes.” The two of them talked for a while longer before Adela became weary and fell asleep. The next morning, Cason was the first to wake up and Madeline did too right after. When Adela woke up, breakfast was prepared already. The four of them ate breakfast and as Adela was getting ready to go out and wash the clothes, Cason suddenly announced that he was going to be leaving. Madeline was taken by surprise, “Right now? Why don’t you wait till we’ve eaten lunch?” Cason shook his head, “I want to return to my home before night time so I will have to leave early.” “What about the people after you?” Madeline asked again, still worried. “Don’t worry about them. They are probably long gone,” Cason replied with a smile. Adela narrowed her eyes and grabbed onto Cason’s arm, “Come with me.” She then pulled him outside, closing the door behind her. They walked towards the forest, far enough so Madeline and Daniel wouldn’t be able to hear what they were saying. “What is it?” Cason asked with a playful smirk on his face. “You said you would repay me with your body, right?” Adela asked, her expression more serious than ever. A plan was beginning to form inside her head as she said this. Cason remembered his words easily and he raised one eyebrow amusedly. Finally, he nodded his head with a smile, “Yes, indeed. I did say that.”  Adela stared into his eyes intently and narrowed her own brown eyes. The morning was still crisp and you could hear the birds singing from inside the forest. The summer weather was finally arriving as the temperature was warming up.  All they could hear was the sound of birds singing for several seconds, before Adela finally responded. “Then marry me.”
