Reincarnate?

1644 Words
In the next few days, the Baldamia Empire was filled with celebration in some areas and mourning in others. The announcement of Alvina’s crimes and punishments were first revealed to the people. Then, it was announced that she had committed suicide inside the Boltonite. Finally, the news of Lucius Cohen and Beatrice Asber being the new King and Queen was sent out to the people of the Empire.  The reaction to the news was different amongst the people. Some were happy about Alvina not being emperor anymore, and some were sad. The empire was in quite a mess when Lucius and Beatrice held their inauguration and marriage on the same day. However, it only took a few days for the people to have forgotten about their late emperor, Alvina. As a traitor when she died, Alvina wasn’t going to be written inside the empire’s historical records, and she was also taken off of the Asber Royal Family Tree.  No one will remember her, and she was not to be spoken of inside and outside the palace. --- Several Hundred Miles Away From the Baldamia Empire The lake didn’t seem to move at all unless you looked closely to see the soft ripples brushing up the rocks and falling back down. There were a few baskets sitting on the small stones, just far enough so the water wouldn’t reach it.  Several feet away from the lake, there was a small wooden cottage. From the window, you could see that the lights inside were on and there was also smoke blowing out from the chimney. Inside the cottage, there were three people.  Two people were sitting on rocking chairs, each with a mug of what seemed to be hot tea in their hands. The two of them looked to be around their 60s already, as they both had a head of white hair wrinkly faces.  The last person was laying on a hard bed made of wood. The bed was very small, and it seemed to only be large enough for at most two people to sleep on it.  The person on the bed was still breathing, but it was very soft. She was a young girl that seemed to be in her late teenage years or early 20s, and even though she looked very pale, it couldn’t cover up her breathtaking beauty. She had light chestnut brown hair that almost reached her waist, and her pale skin was smooth as porcelain. Her lips were also very pale and dry, but even so, the pink color of them didn’t disappear. Although she had her eyes closed, one could still visualize just how beautiful they would look. Anyone who saw her would easily deem her as the most beautiful lady in the empire. However, as of now, only two people knew of her existence. The old couple talked quietly as they slowly sipped their tea, waiting for the stew they were boiling up to be ready. The woman, Madeline Bain, looked over at the lady sleeping on the bed and sighed, whispering to her husband, “She has been out for over a day already. When will she wake up?” The man, Daniel Bain shrugged, “Who knows? I think the stew is ready.” He stood up and lifted up the pot lid to take a look at the stew, and the fragrant smell of the beef stew immediately spread inside the warm cottage. Smelling the food, Madeline also stood up from her chair slowly and walked over, taking over the bowl of stew her husband had served for her. “This cow’s meat is very soft,” Madeline muttered as she took a large bite. The two of them returned to their rocking chairs and began to slowly eat their dinner in the warm room. As they ate, they suddenly heard a moan come from the other side of the room. At once, they looked towards the bed when they sensed the movement. The girl on the bed had her eyes half opened as she slowly moved her arm up towards her face.  The old couple immediately jumped up and placed their bowls onto the table, “You’re awake!” Alvina looked around the small room and tried to push herself up from the bed, but she felt extremely weak and sore. The old woman helped push Alvina up so she was sitting against the wooden wall, and the two of them sat down on the bed, staring at Alvina. Her eyes were indeed very beautiful. They were very dark brown, and they looked like round holes into the black heavens. “I. . . Where am I?” Alvina rubbed her head, which was burning with pain as she tried to remember what happened. She was. . . She was killed! Yes, that’s right! Beatrice had killed her. Although she didn’t know how she had died since she was unconscious before her death, she was certain she was killed! Unless. . . she wasn’t? Why was she here? Where was she? Who were these people in front of her? The old woman blinked a few times, “I found you floating on the edge of the lake when I was washing the clothes and I brought you back.” Alvina frowned slightly, “Where is this?” “This is my home,” the woman said with a gentle smile.  Alvina looked around the tiny cottage that wasn’t even as big as her bedroom in the palace and scratched her head softly.  “What day is it? How long have I been sleeping for?” This time, the old man spoke, “It’s XX/XX already. You have been sleeping for over a day.” XX/XX?! Alvina narrowed her eyes. She was killed XX/XX, three days ago. She slowly dragged her sore body up from the bed and slowly stumbled across the room. Her entire body hurt just from walking a few steps, and the old woman followed behind her. “Do you not remember anything?” The woman asked. Alvina didn’t reply as her eyes landed on a sheet of paper on the table. It was the news from yesterday, as the top read in dark black ink, ‘Baldamia News’. She quickly scanned the two pages and her doubts disappeared.  The entire two pages were about her. It began with how she was kicked off the throne and how her “husband”, Lucius Cohen, took over as the King. Then, she supposedly “admitted” to committing treason by killing the Prime Minister and was sentenced to life imprisonment in the Boltonite. Then, she committed suicide. What?! When did she commit suicide?! Can someone explain to her when and why she committed suicide? Alvina read about how she had hung herself in the cell from a rope. After her story was finished, the next big news was about the big marriage ceremony of the King Lucius Cohen and the new Queen Beatrice Astley to be held in a few days. “Are you. . . Are you okay?” Madeline Bain asked when she saw Alvina blanking out after reading the newspaper. “Do you remember where your home is? Or who you are?” Alvina put down the newspaper and turned around, “Is this the Baldamia Empire?” The woman nodded, “We live at the very border.” Alvina thought for a few seconds. . . Lake? There were several lakes in the Baldamia Empire, so she couldn’t be sure of which one they had found her in. However, if they were in the Baldamia Empire, there was no way this couple didn’t recognize her. She was the Queen regnant! Or at least, the past queen regnant. Her drawing was all over the news and spread around the entire empire after she ascended the throne. There was no way they didn’t know her. Alvina put one hand up to her face.  She was dead. But she wasn’t dead. Was she dead? Beatrice wasn’t stupid enough to mistake her for being dead when she wasn’t. She had to have died. . . But she was still alive? Alvina couldn’t figure out what was happening as she turned around, her eyes landing on the small mirror hanging from the wall. “Ah!” Alvina jumped back, accidentally bumping into the old woman.  “Oh, sorry!” Alvina said immediately, making sure the lady was okay. Right after, she turned back around to take a closer look at herself. Her face! No, no, no. This wasn’t her face! Alvina ran her fingers down her cheek and then across her chin to her other cheek. Who was this? This wasn’t her. The lady she was seeing was absolutely gorgeous. More beautiful than Beatrice, more beautiful than any person Alvina has ever seen. Alvina took a deep breath as she slowly turned around, “Who am I?” The old woman was slightly taken aback, “I. . . I don’t know. I just found you in the lake. Do you not know who you are?” Alvina narrowed her eyes as she stared intently at her reflection.  She died. Woke up in this unknown place and was suddenly alive again. . . inside someone else’s body! Was it someone else’s body?! She had no clue who this body belonged to. Alvina’s mouth opened slightly as she felt her legs become slightly weak. Did she perhaps, maybe, possibly, reincarnate. . . into a nobody?!
