“Then marry me.”
Cason took a step back from surprise and his smile disappeared for a quick second from the shock, “You. . .” He then raised one eyebrow, “Why should I?”
Adela smiled sinisterly, “I can help you get the throne, Prince Cason.”
Cason narrowed his eyes at the mention of his identity again, and he raised one eyebrow, “How? Why should I trust you? Don’t you think I would stand a better chance in fighting for the throne if I married a princess from a powerful nation instead of you. . . a peasant.”
Adela didn’t get mad from being called a princess, and instead she smiled, “Indeed, you would be at a better start if you married someone with a good background, but that is it. If you marry me, you might start a little further than others, but I can help you run faster than others.”
Cason was silent for several seconds before he smiled again and leaned forward, “Adela, I’m sorry to break your dreams, but the Cinderella story isn’t real. . . Although I do really like you,” he lifted his hand up and pushed a few strands of Adela’s hair to the back of her ears, “I can’t marry you.”
Adela obviously knew the Cinderella story wasn’t possible! Because she wasn’t Cinderella, she was a princess. . . Queen!
Adela wasn’t surprised or mad that Cason didn’t agree to marry her. As a princess, if she met a good looking peasant boy that asked to marry her, she also wouldn’t agree.
Why would she pick a peasant over a powerful prince?
Adela smiled and pushed the other side of her hair behind her ears, “You don’t want to marry me. . . or you can’t?”
Cason licked his lips as his usual playful expression and nature disappeared. He did indeed have a flirtatious and playful nature, but that didn’t mean he would randomly marry or even date and sleep with random women.
He didn’t know if Adela was too confident and arrogant in herself or if she was. . . delusional, but of course he wouldn’t marry her. He barely knew anything about her besides the fact that she was very pretty.
“I don’t want to and I can’t,” he replied, his voice colder than usual. He licked his lips and smiled before turning around, “I’m going to go get ready to leave.”
“The Calixtine Empire is thinking about going to war with the Subversi Nation right now. . . The crown prince supports the war and you don’t.”
Cason immediately stopped in his tracks before slowly turning around. His face wasn’t only cold now, but his black eyes also gave off a dangerous spark, “How do you know?”
Only the King, the cabinet, and a few members of the royal family knew about this yet. This information was strictly confidential because going to war was a huge thing.
They could not and did not let any information out. If the information were to leak to other empires and most importantly, the Subversi Nation, then the empire would be put into a horrible position.
How did this. . . peasant girl know about it?
Adela gulped and looked down.
She knew about this because in her past life, as the Queen and ruler of the Baldamia Empire, the current King of the Calixtine Empire had sent her a letter telling her about their war plans and asked her if the Baldamia Empire was willing to support them in the war.
This happened a few weeks before her death, and she was still negotiating with the Calixtine Empire when she had died. Who knew if the Calixtine Empire was still planning on allying with the Baldamia Empire with Lucius as the ruler now?
Therefore, she knew some information about the war plans.
Cason walked over to her, “How do you know?”
He had always been quite suspicious of Adela, and his suspicion level had just risen to another level. There were less than a hundred people at the moment who knew about the Calixtine Empire’s plans about going to war, and there was no way an 18-year-old peasant girl knew about it.
“Cason Thorn, trust me.” Adela looked up, clenching her fists together. This was her only chance. She couldn’t stay here in this cottage forever if she wanted to take revenge and take back what was hers.
As of now, the only route and the best route she could choose was Cason Thorn.
“I can’t tell you now why I know, but I promise you that I will help you.” Adela stared intently into Cason’s skeptical eyes, trying to maintain eye contact.
They stood in silence for half a minute, both testing the other person, trying to figure out if they were genuine or not.
After a long time, Cason broke eye contact and licked his lips. He could feel the sincerity in the way Adela looked at him, but he still couldn’t be completely sure if she was trustworthy.
“I will marry you if you tell me how you know.”
Adela’s eyes lit up upon hearing that he would agree, but the condition. . .
“It is too complicated. I really can’t tell you right now.” Adela pressed her lips together, “If you marry me, I promise that in the future, I will tell you everything.”
Cason raised one eyebrow and took a step back, but Adela quickly grabbed onto his hand.
“If you marry me, I promise you that I will help you get the throne. If I don’t. . . you can kill me.” A relentless and firm sparkle flashed in Adela’s eyes, causing Cason to blink a few times in shock.
She was a young 18-year-old girl that lived in a cottage all her life, yet she is able to make that kind of trade easily without even blinking an eye. Death. . . Who wasn’t scared of death?
Adela grabbed onto his hand with both of her hands and gulped, “I can help you. . . And I need your help.”
Cason narrowed his eyes and they once again fell into silence as they stared at each other for a long time. A marriage for the throne?
After a long time, his smile appeared again and he nodded his head softly, “Okay, my princess.”
