Alvina’s mouth opened slightly as she felt her legs become slightly weak.
Did she perhaps, maybe, possibly, reincarnate. . . into a nobody?!
No way, no way. . . She had no idea what her identity was, so she didn’t have an identity? She was like a blank sheet of paper, starting from 0 again.
Or maybe, was this just all a dream.
Alvina shook her head, more confused than she ever was before. Was this a dream? A dream before she moved on to heaven or. . . hell.
Or did the heavens take pity on her and decide to give her another chance to continue her life.
Alvina didn’t know which one it was, but whichever, it was great for her. She had another chance. This could very well be a dream, and she hoped she would never wake up.
If it wasn’t a dream, then this was her chance.
Her parent’s death, her death. . . Lucius Cohen and Beatrice Asber!
“Miss, do you remember who you are? Your name?” The old man stepped forward and asked.
Alvina turned back around as her mind raced. She couldn’t say she was Alvina Asber. That was the late Queen’s name and the Queen was dead. They would think she was crazy.
“Adela,” Alvina smiled, “Adela Asber.” She used the name of the main character in a childhood story her mother used to tell her.
“You have the same last name as the royal family!” Madeline exclaimed in surprise.
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Do you remember where you live?” The man asked again.
Adela lowered her head sadly and sighed, “I don’t remember. I don’t remember anything except my name. . .”
Madeline Bain frowned, “Aw, you little child. That’s very unfortunate.”
Adela nodded her head.
Madeline looked at Adela’s pitiful expression and she immediately turned to her husband, “Daniel, how about let’s let her stay in our house until she remembers where her home is.”
The man furrowed his eyebrows slightly as she looked up, his eyes meeting with his wife’s pleading expression. He always knew that his wife was a very kind and generous woman, but having a complete stranger stay in their house. . .
Adela looked up with her eyes sparkling, “Really?!”
Madeline’s heart softened as she looked at Adela’s beautiful face. She was infertile and her husband and she had never been able to have a child.
Therefore, when she looked at Adela, she couldn’t bring herself to even say no to a beautiful and pleasant child like her.
“Yes, yes. You can stay until you remember where your home is!” Madeline turned to look at her husband, this time with a forceful glare.
“Right, husband?” She said through gritted teeth.
After a moment, Daniel Bain finally reluctantly nodded his head.
---
Adela volunteered to sleep on the ground on a thick mat, but Madeline didn’t agree at first. However, after several minutes of persuasion, Madeline finally agreed.
As Adela set up the sleeping back, she couldn’t help but think of how nice the heavens were to her.
Maybe it was because her parents were helping her from above.
She was reincarnated and given another chance at life. And on top of that, she was absolutely gorgeous! Then, she met such a nice old woman who was willing to take her in for the time being.
There were few people that would let strangers live in their house, and Adela felt that she was very lucky to meet one of the few.
That night, she slept on the hard ground. Although it wasn’t very pleasant since she was used to sleeping on the soft, palace bed, she still slept well because she was exhausted.
---
The next day, she woke up to the pleasant smell of food.
As she ate breakfast with the couple, the man, Daniel, made it clear to her about the rules of staying in their house.
She would have to help with the chores, including going outside to chop wood, cook the meals, and many more.
Of course, Adela agreed without any complaints. After all, she was staying in their house without any charge, so it was only natural for her to help out.
After a full meal, Adela followed Daniel out of the cottage.
Once she stepped outside, she immediately felt the coldness enter her body. It was the beginning of summertime, but the temperature was still unusually cold.
When she looked to her right, she saw the lake Grandma Madeline was talking about. The water was very calm as it moved slowly, brushing up against the small stones on the shore and then falling back down.
“Was that the lake Grandma Madeline found me in?” Adela asked Grandpa Daniel, the name she had come up for the two of them.
“Yes.” Daniel Bain was a naturally cold person that didn’t enjoy talking or socializing with others. And since Adela was a stranger to him, he didn’t spare a smile for her either.
Adela nodded her head as she looked the other way. Right behind the cottage, there was a huge patch of woods.
The trees were too tall to be able to see how big the forest was, but when looking in, Adela couldn’t see the end of the trees.
She followed Daniel into the forest, where they stopped in front of a pile of wood.
“Watch closely.” He lifted up the ax on the ground and placed one piece of wood straight up on a chopped off log.
Bang! Adela jumped back and gulped as Daniel slammed the ax down, chopping the piece of wood into two.
“Here,” Daniel handed the ax to Adela, who grabbed onto it with both hands, finding it to be much heavier than she had expected.
He set up another piece of wood and took a step back, “Try.”
Adela glanced at Daniel with a confused and shocked expression. Her?! Try to chop that?
Adela opened her mouth and closed it again. She was the. . . Queen! In her past life. . .
She took a deep breath and lifted the ax up and over her head, using all of the strength in her arms to keep it up. Although most of the soreness was gone already, she still felt weak, and lifting the ax up was more difficult than it should be.
Daniel frowned as he looked at Adela’s horrible position and stance as she swung the ax back down.
“Oh my!” Instead of chopping the wood in half, the ax missed the wood by several inches and cut straight through the tree log the wood was positioned on.
Because of the strong force, Adela tumbled forward almost falling onto the ax.
“Ah!”
